383 stroker- broken push rods.
I have a built 383 stroker. It was professionally built 10 years ago. It has sportsmen iron head, solid lifter, 501 lift, 9 to 1 comp.
It has 30k miles on it. it was installed and ran great with 100 shot of NOS for 3 years. it was removed due to crash and has been on a stand for the past 6 years. It is now installed in a 66 Nova.
I started it and it seemed to be running good but needed the carb adjusted. I had a local shop look at it. The tech stared it and started reving it up. I don't think it had time to build oil pressure before it was revved up. I got a call from the shop the next day telling me it had a broken push rod. The car has not been driven as it is not done yet. Today I took the other valve cover off and discovered another broken push rod opposite the for first one.
Both are bent and broke clean. They are hardened. I bought a new set but don't want to put them in and have the same thing happen.
Anyone have any experience with something like this. It took me forever to get it up and running so I really don't want to tear it apart if I don't have to.
My grandfather, mom's side, drove a 39 Plymouth coupe when I was about 4 or 5 and I thought it was pretty cool and I loved the tail fins on the 49 Cadillac. I drew cars when I was in the 5th and 6th...
How did you get hooked on cars?
