Need to install correct alternator bracket on my 283
I've got a 283 out of a 1966 Chevelle installed in my 1967 GMC pickup. The pickup had a 327 in it stock. The alternator bracket has not been right for a LONG time. I think it originally had an alternator bracket with the smog pump, but I'm not sure about that. Over the years, the truck has eaten countless alternators and belts. Being dumb and broke, I've rigged it all sorts of ways to work over the years, but it's never been right.
Now, I'm still dumb, but I've got a little extra money to do it right. The current setup includes one bolt into the stock left side exhaust manifold. I'm hoping to eventually get headers, so that bolt hole probably wont be there.
My question - is there a standard piece I can get from Summit or some other outlet that will bolt right on, align correctly and solve my alternator alignment issues? The truck has no power accessories, so the alternator belt is the only thing turning the water pump. Currently the alternator is on the drivers side. It has limited adjustment because it bumps into the valve cover. Here is a picture of the engine, but I don't think you can see much of the alternator brackets.
Thanks for any ideas.
