ok so i have two projects going and would like some thoughts on parts for best performance for my buck. 1st build is a 1980-1985 gen1 350 in my 1990 camaro.
and the secound build is a 350 vortk. would like some advice on getting the best performance out of them. I am pretty new to this so any advice and sugestions will be apreciated. thank you guys in advance

I don't think any of us are going to spend much time answering you until you give us some details of what you want to do. The fact that you're a first-time poster doesn't help much either. Some of you fellows will make one post and then disappear. If you hang around and will help us out with some information, there are some good minds on this board who can help you to blueprint a winner.
1. Budget for each motor. Not asking for pie in the sky. Need to know how much long green you have in your wallet for these projects.
2. Fuel quality available.
3. How much of the work are you able to do yourself?
4. Do you have a place to do the work?
5. Is there a precision automotive machine shop in your area?
6. Do you have the tools that are required to do this work?
7. Do you have the time to do this work?
7. Are you looking for:
.....A. as fast as possible, damn the cost!!!! Drag racing only.
.....B. a little drag racing, but mostly street running.
.....C. Street only, on available pump gas.

thanks guys . the camaro is being built for a weekend runner not a trailor queen but not a straight up drag eather just a fun car for the weekends mostly. as for funds i have about 1g a month to drop into my toys. so far i have a 10 bolt rear with 3:11 posi in back full ladder and frame ties all the way to the tranny which is a 700r4 with full b&m shift kit clutches bands all the works torq lock up 2500 stall b&m conso;e shifter on top in the front full tubular k with custome strut brace and supports made by my self * point roll cage with swing out door bars custome inter sterio ac. so far on the 350 eddl carb 600cfm and intake small cam ported and polished. to blow it all out custome 4 inch pipe running dualls all the way back with flowmaster cans. and elc. knock offs for openning it up and a 2 stage nos set up with a plate shooting 150 shot.
as for me i have been wrenching since middel school helping my dad build custom cars and interiors i have worked as a tech for 2 dealerships and 5 motor cycle shops but had a bad wreck 2 years ago so disabeld now and a stay at home dad and do this to keep sane as for the work 95% of it i do myself and if you can not find the right tool for the job in my garage snap on runs by twice a month ....
Can you see yourself opening up the early motor to 383? More cubic inches makes it easier for a street motor to operate in a reasonable rev range. How about cylinder heads? Aluminum? Cast Iron? High buck? Low buck? Would $1,600 for a set of AFR heads be out of the question? With 383 cubic inches and a set of AFR 195 heads, among other parts and a 10.0:1 static compression ratio, you could generate a REAL 500 hp and 500 ft/lbs of torque naturally-aspirated, no nitrous. Is that what you had in mind or not?

i was thinking about going that rout it is an option. on the other hand not really looking to drop that much into it just for a set of heads. was thinking going with .30 over bore new forged pistons alumin heads 4" high rise intake not shure about what cam i would go with and bumb up the carb to 750cfm
I would suggest the first step to locate/procure a later model 4 bolt main block already set up for roller lifters-------and/or you might want to look at a Dart SHP which would not only be that but could go oversize from as cast 4.125 and a longer stroke yet to get you up to well over 400 cubes------

we have pretty much stopped doing flat tappet stuff---not because I am afraid of it, just no customer demand for it anymore---I probably have 15-20 sbc flat tappet cores and probably only one customer in the past year for one and that was an early 70s solid lifter 302 Camaro--one of them numbers matching things--had a crack on outside of block that took stitching to repait, but its still the original block in the car---one of them 990+ point thingies worth half mil-------
