Wiring Ignition to Starter on 350 SBC
Few yrs ago built a stand with radiator switch and gauges and have used it
to start more than one engine, but having problems this time. This is a 350
with point ignition. I am trying to wire the starter to switch in the floor before
I mount it to block. I tested the starter in the floor with battery cables and crossed
the S post on solenoid to Battery post on solenoid and it worked fine. Have checked
my ign switch (on, acc, and start) and test light shows ok. I have ran wire from
battery on switch to big battery post on solenoid, S on switch to S on solenoid,
and a wire from R side post of solenoid to plus side of coil, and also a wire from
ign side of switch to coil and fire is getting to coil. I am not using an alternator
at this stage. Fire is getting to coil, but this set up will not let me turn starter
using switch. The only thing I haven't done is ground starter to block. I am grounding
starter direct from battery. It's been quite some time since I hooked a deal like this
up, but I seem to be doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be most
helpful.

Ground everything and use some kind of resistance wire from R to the coil to keep from burning the points.Ken Thomas

Problem solved. Wiring was correct. Grounding properly took care of situation. Thanks
