Identifying Piston Rings
I’m building another small journal 327 and have come to a spot where I need some help.
I bought a set of Wiseco forged flat top pistons from a gent that couldn’t use them as his build had to go .060” over. They had the rings installed. I pulled them off for the obvious reasons, correct installation, end gap measurement etc.
As of yet I can’t determine the manufacturer. Hasting says not theirs due to location of the dot. Waiting to hear back from others.
It turned out these rings have moly faces on both top and second rings.
I bought these pistons many years ago and the gent I bought them from can’t recall what brand they were. He thought they would be sealed power, TRW, or Hastings.
As installed:
Top ring - dot on top side, inner bevel on top side, moly face laid between two thin strips of iron.
Second ring - no dot, inter bevel installed on top, moly is not inlaid between two strips of iron. There is iron on the face on the same edge as the bevel then moly on the rest of the face.
And most interesting, the second ring has more tension than the top ring???
Any insight would be appreciated
Thanks
