lput distributor in after getting no 1 up on compression stroke,msd ignition,,no 1 on distrib should be aimed at no 1 on motor,correct be if im wrong ,but the damn thing is spitting and backfiring ..what am i doing wrong?wires all clockwise,firing order right am i doing something wrong?help

Distributor timing procedure should be the same no matter the brand name. Timing may be off 180 degrees. or just a couple teeth on the dist. Try turning the dist. forward or back and see if it gets better. If not it may be too far off and you'll have to either remove the dist. to move the gear one way or the other or you can move the wires on the cap to get the timing closer.
streets ive seen where you say you can set the timing with a vac. guage, but ive never seen it done. when you reach max. vac. what is that tdc? :confused:Quote:

It is doable. Ive done it with a SBF. Comes to 10 BTDC on a 302.
it wasnt a typo street,i ve put in tons of distributor,this got me stumped......
Sounds like you're off a tooth or 180 degrees.
- Make sure that you are on the compression stroke for #1.
- Turn the engine so that the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is somwhere between 0 and 12 degrees (I prefer 12, but that's another story :LOL: )
- Put the cap on the dist, and put a small piece of tape on the body of the dist in line with the post that you will wire to the #1 cylinder.
- Take off the cap and drop in the dist and adjust so that the rotor points to the piece of tape.
That will get you in the ballpark.
