Gas Struts for Trunk Lid
I recently finished upholstering the trunk on my 1930 Ford Roadster (Brookville). I am thinking about using a gas strut to raise the trunk lid. However, I don't know what length to use.
A friend told me to select any size, then measure where the location would be with it fully opened and fully closed. Can anyone give me a starting point as far as the length and where I can buy one?
The trunk lid doesn't weigh that much, but I wanted to replace the standard arm that is currently holding it.
Thanks in advance!

Travis...thaks for the reply. The reason I was asking is that I have a 1930 Ford (pictured) made by Brookville Roadster. It's all steel, but the trunk lid isn't very heavy. Easy to manually lift. I was hoping that someone had a similar car that could give me some advice on length and spring rate.
Thanks

The bad thing about gas struts is you don't know how aggressive of shock you are getting until you have it! Kennyd put two gas struts on a 56 nomad hood they are probably 16in extended length and it is more than enough!! I would try one that is about 10in extended length and go from there!

Thanks Travis; Thanks robot.
Sorry for your loss of friend Mike McGee, Shine. Great trans men are few and far between, it seems. Sadly, Mike Frade was only 66 and had been talking about retirement for ten years that I know...
