......Hi everyone, What make and model fuel pump would you guy's/gal's recommend? It's for my '32 Ford. I plan on using a 502 crate motor {carb or carb's, not injected} with either an 8:71 or a Procharger on it. Shooting for a max of 700 Hp. I have a fuel cell with a 1/2" outlet & plan on using 1/2" line. In going through my Summitt Catalog I find myself upgrading to what I'm sure is more than I need. Oh and what kind of fuel line would you use? THANKS again everyone, Bill
Take a look at the Aeromotive pumps (and regulators). They offer a continuous duty pump that will feed your combo nicely.
Oh, the lines... I used a # 10 AN supply to the regulator & a #8 for the return. Don't forget a quality cannister filter on the supply line. The carb(s) should have #6 or #8 lines to the regulator. PS.. I have a brand new Hilborn pump & mounting kit for a BBC that flows 2.96 gals/minute@1800 rpm... You don't need this on your setup, but I would sell it cheap:)
I'm using a Holley black max installed according to their rec's. Using stainless and AN fittings it was plenty expensive. I run a Aeromotive regulator at the carb with no return. In my application vapor locking is not going to be an issue.
You can quickly spend upwards of a grand on this if you ain't careful! And probably don't really need all the extra goodies.

That is a 6 going to the regulator. The black pump operates at 12-14 psi. Yeah I know performance guys like to run an 8 but if you do a pressure drop calculation at worst case flow you will see that it is "point squat" psi. And besides the regulator manages pressure to the carb.
Do I sound defensive? I'm still talking myself into the 6 :LOL:

Kitz, I'm confussed! The picture shows your fuel pump on the front side of the fuel cell. How can this get enough fuel to the pump? Doesn't it work by gravity? Or is the fact that you have 2 lines going into it solving this? Thanks, Bill
if you put enough HP in front of that #6 hose, the reg won't have nothing to reg. can't but so much fuel get through that hose. :HMMM: :cool:Quote:

the pump is pulling the fuel out of the tank and pushing it to the carb. it wouldn't have hurt to be closer to the tank, but for the st its ok, with a bigger line that is . kitz jr. :HMMM: :LOL:Quote:

thats some nice looking work and would leave it alone for st use. if the fuel pressure dont get below 3 lbs. it dont make no dif. **)
At 140 GPH (2.3 GPM) gasoline through a 3/8 line I compute a pressure drop of 0.02 psi for an 8 foot run. This is what I called "point squat" above. Meaning the 14 psi pump does not even know this restriction is there.
You should try to put the pump as close to and below the tank pick-up as you can. My pump is below the tank pick-up but further away than I would like. Holley recommended the twin filtered suction lines prior to the pump. These just have sintered brass cartridges for minimal restriction. I think I am going to add a large cartridge filter between the pump and carb as well.
Thanks It1st10. Unfortunately I do not yet know if this thing works right or not, but I suspect it will.
