Rad Support Rod Spacing

What is supposed to be the spacing of the radiator support rods at the firewall?

I notice that the brackets do not appear to want any angle when mounted flush at the firewall. Same for the radiator brackets.

I am not planning on running any hood pieces.

Rod center to center is 12 3/8". The brackets are left and right. There is an angle built into the bracket. The brackets and rods should not be in any bind at this dimension.
