165R15 Front Tires For Highboy
I am building a 32 Ford Highboy. Looking at numerous 32's, I like the look of a 165R15 tires for the front. I have found them available in a brand called Kumho. From the research I have done it looks like they are made in China. I am not comfortable about buying tires nade in China. Maybe some day I will feel different but right now I have reservations. Anyone have experience with Kumho? Or can someone steer me towards other brands in this size?
Thanks.

165R15 is a stock size VW bug tire. The nice ones are Michelin XZX's. Check around with VW shops in your area or on The SAMBA "parts for sale" page.

Check the Chinese tires for a DOT reference cast into the rubber. If it ain't there, move on.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

.....try www.cokertire.com that's where I got my front tires. I got 125SR x 15 Firestones, but they have a good selection of all sizes. I believe they had 4 different brands of 165R x 15's including Firestone's, Michelin's, etc.... It's an easy site to negotiate also. Just click on the size & they come up. Some on line tire sites drive me CRAZY cuz the only way you can find tires is to input your make & year of car. And when you say you have a '32 Ford, well, you don't get far.... Bill
ps, oh I did have Kumho's on my Firebird at one time {275x40x17's}. When I used to hang out at the Firebird/Camaro road racing/auto cross sites the Kumho's where rated {by the hard core road race folks} as a good budget street tire for going fast around corners. I had no problems with the ones I had on my Firebird but I don't know if the smaller sizes are the same quality as the larger ones.{The Goodyear's cornered better though}... .... Hope this helps ya....Last edited by billlsbird; 06-14-2007 at 09:14 PM.

Ran a pair once on the front of the car, they were a bit down on traction to my liking. I'd go with either Goodyear or Firestone....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

What you really need is a pair of 560-15 Firestome Deluxe Champions, and some matching 820-15s out back.
I have a nearly new set of 165-15 radials for sale, but they're wide whites.Last edited by joeybsyc; 06-24-2007 at 09:06 PM.

Sorry for your loss of friend Mike McGee, Shine. Great trans men are few and far between, it seems. Sadly, Mike Frade was only 66 and had been talking about retirement for ten years that I know...
