31" Lenght
Built around a standard length (37") GM non-tilt steering shaft.
Very common length, found in vans, cars etc.
An excellent length for 32's & A's.
U-joint angles aren't extreme and the good angle - ergonomically speaking - is out of the way of most header setups.

If you want to have a column shifter, I suggest the Chevrolet/GMC van column with tilt. I use them in all 32 Ford builds. I do not like the shifter in the floor ... :o I am a big guy and the column shifter makes more room in the floor.

The Chevrolet/GMC van tilt meets all of the requirements I have for a Hot Rod column.
1) tilt
2) turn signals
3) shifter on the column
4) small ... with NO key
5) neutral start switch
6) shift indicator ( P R N D L2 L1 )
On the firewall side ... the column has splines that most every steering joint company makes joint to fit it.
And it uses a standard Chevrolet spline in the steering wheel so there are LOTS of aftermarket steering wheels to choose from ( and the horn work :D )

In my roadster pickup, where there is limited interior space, we used a non-tilt, column shift '56 f-100 column. the total length is 32", 26" from toe board to steering wheel adaptor (uses a 3 bolt adaptor). Anything longer made it difficult to get in or out of cab.

Lurker and Deuce, what is the name brand wheel you are using?
I like the flat zero dish type because my column is a bit too tall with the large "tulip bulb" on the Ididit column; I can't move the column down any more into the column drop because of the large blob of the "tulip". This means that I need to somehow move the drop down and back OR get a flat wheel. I like the flat wheel you both have.

Don, I got mine from Barry Lobeck's but Juliano's carries them also. However it came in a LaCarra box. It's 14" diameter, Leather wrapped and comes in several colors. It takes a 3 bolt adaptor. You can get several style horn buttons from different companies.

I have a Mullin's column in mine & want to switch to something else.
I need a 1 3/4" dia column (have the billet floor mount, tach mount & column drop from other column)
Does anyone make a 1 3/4" roadster aftermarket non-tilt in chrome or polished w/ turn signals & a horn?
Someone told me an early Vette application might work.
Both Flaming River and ididit make an early Vette copy, non tilt with turn signal built in. I've got two 1 3/4 columns that are non-tilt, one is polished stainless from Lime Works, the other polished aluminum from Borgeson/Mullins, very clean designs with nicely shaped bells at the top, but no built in signal, but do have horn capability. I prefer to hide the signal set on these two cars, so the clean column is more to my liking.
Currently- I have an array of switches under my dash w/ the Hotronics timed set-up for turn signals. Hate it. Also a horn button & ignition all on a panel under the dash. I'd like self cancelling turn signals & a horn button so I can loose all this junk under the edge of the dash.
Several make them w/ turn signals but I couldn't find one that would put the horn in the center of my wheel.
I also saw a cool column drop that had the ignition switch on the side of it but I can't recall who makes it now. Got that CRS syndrome.:CRY:

Well I got the steering installed but the column goes through the firewall with about a third of the hole on the edge of the deep indent for the motor in the Bebops firewall. Most of the pictures above have a hole through a flat place but I need some sort of large rubber grommet that will mold to the curved surface. So far I have tried to make a grommet out of rubber tubing and grooved fender welt but they do not conform well. What I really need is a large rubber grommet that will deform to the curved surface. I also tryed cutting the rubber center out of a roof gasket for the breather pipe of a house sewage ventilation. The 2" hole of the roof gasket fits the 2" column nicely but the flat rubber will not conform to the curved surface. I can still try to use silicone sealer to glue whatever grommet I can find to the curved surface. Any suggestions?
