Went to a tiki/rat rod car show yesterday
My brother's waaay into the tiki scene (but not the cars) & there was a car show there too. I'm not into this whole scene- every car I looked at seemed to be a few thousand away from being done IMO () but to each their own. I will say I saw fewer of the butchered unsafe looking rides & more of the safer type builds. You know- they actually had brakes, a seat to sit in.
However - I saw a few I liked but sadly, they had interiors & shiny paint.
Nice flathead roadster w/ a Pines Winterfront grille.
And my favorite- this SoCal built 32, 2 1/2" chop, Buick nailhead, 5 speed
OMG- it was beautiful!!! He also had a beautiful 40 ford business coupe there- built by SoCal too.

Ummmmm. I give up, what the heck is the tiki scene?????? If it's something to do with the wood lookin' grille......only thing I could say is ............ Well, never mind, I won't say it....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

It's not a wood looking grille. It's a vintage aftermarket grille. The vertical bars (that open & close) are brass- or looked brass to me. Maybe the pic made it look like wood. A friend of the owner of the car said they were in the process of restoring it.
These things go for big bucks. I saw 2 of these grilles at this show- the other one was probably worth more than the car it was attached to. I've heard stories of these things in great condition fetching over 2 grand!
Here's another one- with the slats painted red I found w/ a serarch.
What's the tiki scene? People that are as nutz about all things tiki as we are about 32's.Last edited by Steves32; 04-27-2008 at 08:31 PM.

Guess I'm not on the nutz about deuces list, had a couple of them and built a few more.... Just too limited of a platform to do the things I want to do with a car... I still like them, guess now-a-days I just get bored easy.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I was there from 6 to 8 am. They wouldn't let me in cuz I was gonna leave early. Parked outside the gates and hitched a ride in a 66' Rancho Gasser. Made a pass, to look at the cars, then went home.

You guys are good. Yes- this was the Ventura show, I think it's called Back to the beach? Not a big turn-out, we didn't get there until 10am as spectators. Left about 1. Met some friends there, it's a good 2 hour drive for us in the gas pig Suburban.
I will say I talked to alot of people, shiny paint or not & everyone was as friendly as can be. I'd walk up and ask a question about their car & they'd be all smiles talking about their car. They had some very cool trophys- small vintage looking surfboards, every one of them were different.
Yes- that gold 32 was all built by Jimmy Shine. The paint is absolutely beautiful. Pics don't do the car justice.
