Loud Rear end I think?

The 32 has a used 8 inch Ford rear end. I just replaced an axle and both bearings. I can hear whinning above the loud pipes I have on the car. I insulated the #$% out of the car.

I think it is the rear end is there anything I can do besides replacing the chunk to quiten it?????? I put regular gear oil in it.

Could it be something else?? Would a 350 Tubo whine???????

There is a strong possiblity that these two threads are related. I have seen rear center sections make noise and vibrations. I have also seen the rear bushing in a transmission case be worn and cause the same isssues.

Sometimes a driveshaft will cause the 50 MPH plus vibration. I have removed the rear portion of the driveshaft and rotated it 180 degrees, reinstalled it and the vibration be gone. :D

But I believe you need another 8 inch center section :o

I would agree both are the same problem. Does your exhaust exit under, or behind the rear of the car? Exhaust harmonics sound very much like vibrations. Just an idea.

The fat stainless 6 blade fan in my 32 has a low pitched whine to it when running 80 or so. (3300 rpm.)

One test that may help is to drive at the problem speed, put the trans in neutral and let off the gas - at the same time - so that all you're hearing is the drive train.

Noise goes away points to the engine.
Noise stays, drivetrain probs.
