These grilles are made to close off the air flow to the radiator ... so the engine can warm up in a very cold climate.
These things are either " You LOVE them ... or You HATE them "
Because of their rarity, they have become a status symbol of sorts. It's like LOOK AT ME ... or I have more money to spent than you do :o We all know that if you have 7 grand or more to spend on a grille, you have a modern car to drive in cold, frigid weather and would not risk your 32 Ford in that weather.
Randy, you may be correct about that to a degree, but I think there is also an element of trying to have a different look in a perceived sea of '32s. I think we had a discussion on here a couple years ago that repopping the Pines style trim (without the flaps) would probably go over well to affect a different look. Of course, if someone would be successful with that idea it wouldn't be so unique.
Cool feature for warm winter drives, but way too rich for my blood, rather drop that into the paint job. It's amazing what people will spend for unique items.
With todays bunch of 1-800 cookie cutter Deuces @ the events ... it is somewhat difficult to be different ... to the casual event spectator.

The above photo was in Street Rodder magazine last year. It was taken at the GoodGuys Indianapolis event :D
With over 200 " Deuces " there ... I bet there was not 75 steel 32 Fords in the bunch.
I bought out a old guy's stash of 32 Ford stuff about 15 years ago ( and I spent more than the price of a well equipped new American mid size car ) and I got a Pines Winter Front in the deal. After selling off some of the parts and pieces ... I had my money back ... and still had the Winter Front. So basically I had it for FREE ... but I sold it. Luckily, they do absolutely nothing for me and I do not have to try and impress a bunch of strangers and event spectators with my buying power.
Would I like to find another couple of them ... for cheap money. Certainly ... eBay they would go.
