hi!! was trying to locate a good out of sight place for the starter solenoid(302 ford in a 32 three window)can it be mounted under the pas side floor board next to the frame? will water be a problem? i mounted the voltage regulater on the inside of the pas side firewall and the battery in the trunk. does any one see any problems with this set up? thanks pete
it has always been my understanding that the solenoid needs to be as close to the battery as possible ( the longer lead feading the starter ) as voltage is easier to push than it is to pull .. does that make sense ..
Mine is in the trunk, bolted to the battery box with '0' cable running to the starter. This solenoid is actually being used as a relay rather then the solenoid as the 'new' Ford starters have the actual solenoid mounted on top of it - mine is the SVT high output starter. The distance is not very far as it is a '31 roadster.
My last car was the same set up as yours and I mounted my solenoid on the frame under the passenger toeboard close to the starter. It worked well and there was no problem with water, plus it was easily accessable if there was ever a need to "jump" the car. I did use a Ron Francis battery cable to get from the battery to the solenoid and it worked well.

I believe the solenoid requires a good ground. If your mounting to a fiberglass floor, run a ground wire from a mounting bolt to the frame or motor/trans.
