I have a Vintique gas tank in my roadster. The tank is vented into a length of hose . The open end of the hose is attached to the bottom of the floor in the "arch" area. This is the highest point accessable under the car. When the tank is full, gas drains out of the vent. The people at Vintique have told me to get some hard line and put a 1" loop at the open end. Not sure this will work. Has anybody else had this problem? What worked for you?
I have the same tank and it also has the "dangling hose". I was looking at it last night to figure out a better solution and thought it might be better to vent the gas cap instead. I have not had the car on the road yet and I'm sure I will need to resolve this problem soon. We made a hard vent line with a double loop in it and sealed the open end with a small K&N slip-on motorcycle filter for our VW race car and it worked fine.
Jay Carnine (C9) sent me an e-mail outlining his solution. First, he recommends running a hard line up the inside of one of the fender wells (inside the trunk) and back down. Both the entrance and exit should be under the car and outside the body. Connect one end to the vent. The other end can be open to air or fitted with a simple slip on filter.
In his roadster, C9 also installed a small charcoal filter and ran a line to the air intake on his carb.
I am going to try the high loop without the charcoal filter. If gas fumes in the garage are a problem I will conside the more elaborate solution.
Vintique gave me a strong "don't do it" when I asked about drilling a vent hole in the cap. Said I would always have a little gas running down the outside of the filler neck if I did.
