1932 Ford Coupe Project Thread

Those Hoosier big and little's sure give the chassis "class and character". I love the look!

It's been a long time since I posted any progress here, but I finally painted everything last week and I'm going to wet sand the clearcoat and buff out this weekend. My Dad was down for two weeks and helped me out so much. The summer was too hot to paint in the garage, but good weather finally came. I have to get some pictures off my phone to put up, so I will work on that. I'm hoping to have everything together and driving around by Christmas, and I have a good interior guy local here in Maryland, who did my bench seat, that will finish the interior. I haven't been on the computer much, so I'm catching up now. Great cars on here since I last logged on. :)

Another month gone by, but Dad and I made some progress. We finally have the body on the frame this past Saturday. Him and Mom came down for Thanksgiving, and my poor Mom has all she can do to walk. She was real sick this past spring and summer, so that's why I lost all my drive since Easter on this project. I thought she was dying Holy Thursday. Her heart is doing okay, so I hope to have it driving before next Easter. I want to have a picture of her and Dad in the coupe together. That's the bucket list ending. Here's a few pics from this weekend. My Dad is still turning wrenches at 77 years old. I can only hope to live that long. :D

Here's the Bob Drake rubber insulator between the body and frame we used. Nice stuff! I used a strip of painters tape on each hole along the frame rail to know where I had to make a hole for the bolts.

I took off the rear wheels and bolted old steel rims I had on and put them on moving dollies to lower the rear as low as I could to mount the body.

I found the perfect center of gravity on the Coupe and used straps with my electric hoist to bring it up as high as I could. We only had two Irishman on this job. :HMMM:

Painting my first car was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but I think it will look half way decent when I'm done. I wish I didn't try on this car, but the memories will last a lifetime. I'm going to buff out the clearcoat next, and Dad will come up after New Year's to install everything that needs a wire, which I will finish. I'm glad Dad was there every step of the way, because it's no fun on your own. This is his car, not mine. We are both glad Mom is doing better, but she needs two more surgeries before the end of the year. Please keep her in your prayers.

Wow Pat, you've had a bunch of up and downs this year. Working with your Dad on a hot rod is just way cool.
But your Mom in poor health can take the fun out of everything..

Thanks so much guys. I hope to get back in the garage tomorrow. I just had the first part of a root canal done today so it hurts like hell. Been bothering me since Dad and I put the body on last Saturday. Stubborn Irishman finally went to Dentist on Wednesday and he referred me to an Endodontist to save the tooth. :CRY:

HMmmmm.. I cannot click "Like" when someones having a root canal!

I'd rather say something like the scenes in Monty Pythons "Holy Grail"..

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, but I had nothing going on until last week when my Mom and Dad came back down to Maryland for a week. Dad and I made some great progress on the Coupe. I'll tell you what, wet sanding erases a multitude of clearcoat sins. LOL We wet sanded and buffed for the first 3 days Dad was here and the paint is looking much better than I expected. I still have a few more areas to work on after I pushed it out of the garage and into the sun last Saturday, before Dad left. Mom is doing great and thank you for those who asked and prayed for her. She worked on the inside of my house adding those touches only a woman can do, while Dad and I were in the garage everyday. I was able to take a few days off work too, to take advantage of him being here. We were both a nervous wreck wet sanding and not going into the blue. I hit a couple edges, but I can fix that with touch up paint I saved. We both never did anything like this before. I'm going to be putting in the Dynamat this weekend and start wiring her up. I also have the upper and lower radiator hoses and the single serpentine belt, so hopefully I have the lengths right. The alternator just fit inside the frame rails and I had to cut down the turnbuckle from my old 66 Fairlane deal to make it fit for belt replacement and tightening. We both couldn't stop staring at it until he left. I still have to wet sand and buff the doors and trunk. They are down in my basement, so I will get to them by next weekend. I have to go to Tampa FL for work meetings next week. Our goal is to start it up after Easter then run it over to the interior guy who did my bench seat already. This is our year for sure!!! Here's the pics! The color is Ford Norsea Blue, the same on my Crown Vic in the photos. I love this color and it's Ford!! :D

Here's one where I was running to the trunk after hitting the timer on the camera for a picture of us wet sanding. Took longer than 10 seconds to get in there. LOL I tripped over some boxes on the first try. haha Dad turned 77 this January and he's still non-stop and strong.

Excellent update and great pictures. What grit were you using to wet sand?

Looks GREAT Pat!! The season will be starting soon and I'll see your Dad at the local shows and he's gonna tell me all about the car! Can't wait! I'm looking forward to seeing both of you at some show up here this summer!

Not sure what I can add that hasn't already been said. Just awesome that you get to do it all sharing time with your Dad.
