I've been a busy beaver since April, but I finally was able to put up my pictures to my webspace. Before I took everything off the frame, I put on a set of bare 15" rims to check my clearance if all the tires went flat. The closest thing was the transmission pan, but I was still able to slide a piece of paper under it. A flat tire would give me more clearance, so this is worst case scenario.

Here's some of those parts painted. The color is Ford's Norsea Blue This is the color of my Crown Victoria and it has so much metal flake in it. This was my first time painting anything and it came out pretty good.

Here's a neat trick to paint the rims if you have the tires mounted already. I took out the needle valve and let the air out of the tire. Then I stepped on the sidewalls and inserted index cards between the tire and rim. I found it online.

Lastly, here's some pics of me getting my frame to the sandblasters and getting it back. I'm so glad I had them spray the primer after, because I wouldn't have been able to get to it for the past two weeks. I hoping to get it painted next weekend.

This is where I'm at as of today. My mission today is getting the engine off the engine stand and installing the converter into the freshly painted transmission. I'm also going to install the 3.50 gears in the differential too. I will post some pics of those when I'm all done. Next will be painting the body and then I can start putting it together. My Dad is going to come down to Baltimore from Jersey to give me a hand. He can't wait!!! Great to be back in the swing of things.
Some major progress Pat. I am a little worried by your clearance of the front axle, but with tires high enough you should be fine. The oil pan might be iffy crossing a speed bump. Your paint came out real nice.
Lots of progress and great pics Thank You! Good to see you haven't forgotten us! LOL..
I'm looking forward to following along.
How could I ever forget a great place like this. :D I didn't get much done today. I had to go into work with a problem and I had new trailer tires put on. I will resume my plans for today for tomorrow.
Steve, I will have plenty of clearance with the front tires I have. Here's a pic of my setup, so I'm sure I will be able to conquer those speed bumps. The tires are 26" tall and I think my lowest point was 4" with this combo.

Wow what a difference a little rubber makes! :)
Great work, nice to see you back, awesome work on the car!
Looks really nice Pat!!! Sure is great seeing the Ford in a Ford coupe coming together!!!!!
Looking good! Keep those pictures coming!
Here's an update after today. The frame is done.

Sweet! Almost to pretty to hide under that coupe...
Pat, did you cut & re-weld the horizontal tubes atop the engine stands to level them, taking out the nominal 5 degree up tilt that they have from the factory?
No, I didn't touch the engine mounts that New Age welded in for me. I brought my engine and trans to them to set up the mounts. I does appear to have a slight tilt up when it was in there, but not sure how much. It looks like the same amount from when I had this setup in my 66 Fairlane.
Ryan, Dave, Lynn, and 34_40, thank you!!! I should have some more pictures after today. I should have the trans painted, engine touched up, and all bolted together. I'm going to install a set of 3.50 gears and paint the differential too. I have 4.33's in there now from when I had my heavy Fairlane. If I don't have it done today, it will be tomorrow. Next week I'm going to start sanding the body for primer and paint. The weather here in Maryland has been so nice for painting. It hasn't been too hot and the humidity has been on the low side. Great timing! This time last year was always near a 100* and humid. My garage was like an oven! Have a great weekend everyone!
Ryan,
My question was aimed at the two engine stands you used for the rotisserie holding the frame. I used two stands on my '33, unmodified, and when rotated it got kind of funky, lifting wheels etc, because the top tubes on the standard engine stand are not level. Just wondering if you reworked yours, which I plan to do if I put the new one up to repaint one of these days....
Oh the stands on the rotisserie, sorry about that. I thought you meant the engine mounts. I borrowed the rotisserie from my cousin Dan, who made it up. He built his 32 with it. I'm thinking he has it leveled off, because the frame turns so easy and there's no lifting of the casters or anything like that.
Looking at it again outside, it's not even two old engine stands. He made this out of old metal stock he had in his garage. Everything is straight up and level. My cousin John, Dan's brother, used it for his 32 3 window coupe as well. It's been around the block! LOL
if you use engine stands you have to level them first. they all tilt to the rear a few degrees.
built mine for cleaning and blasting . little on the heavy duty side but i didn't want flex or fatigue . makes building a dash much easier .
Your frame looks very nice. I forgot to add that I really like your F350 too!
Thanks Ryan. I picked it up in April and it's something I wanted since I was a kid. It's the F350 Lariat and it has that nice big screen for navigation, phone link, entertainment, and climate controls. It has the 6.7L Powerstroke and I love it! I've been to Jersey twice in it to visit and it's getting 20mpg. I only have just over 2500 miles on it. I hope to get an enclosed car trailer, and I think that will be a bit much for the Crown Vic that was towing my 18' open hauler.
http://www.patfromjersey.com/32ford/f350dually.jpg
I finally attached the converter to the trans and the trans to the engine. I had an unusual circumstance, since Ford made 3 different crank pilots. There's a 1.250", 1.375", and 1.850". My crank has the 1.375" pilot hole, but the nice TCI Street Fighter 10" 3000 stall converter has a 1.250" snout. I had a 472 cubic inch engine in my brother's 47 Ford Truck, which had the 1.250" crank pilot hole that had this converter in it. I made a little bushing from scrap 3" exhaust pipe, since the walls are .0625", it filled the .125" gap I needed. It worked like a champ after filing it smooth. I did a trial fit before I put the converter in the transmission. She's all bolted up and ready to go. Here's a few pictures.
The 1.250" snout is on the left and a 1.375" is on the right. The one on the right is a PTC 4500 stall converter that I got in a transmission deal a few years ago. That's too much for me.
http://www.patfromjersey.com/32ford/00628a.jpg
This is the small bushing I made for the snout of the converter from 3" exhaust pipe. It worked out pretty good. I didn't want to leave that .125" void in the crank pilot and rely on the 4 bolts to hold the converter "centered". Maybe it doesn't make a difference and maybe it does. I'd rather be good with the snug fit and center support on the crank as if I had the 1.375" snout on the converter.

Great work! Your front pump bushing says thanks for making the shim for the converter. Your Ford is sweet! I'd love to have one but we have to get a property first, and the kids will have to be in college too. Haha
http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...6_25_27_2_.jpg Great looking car Pat! Cant wait to see it in person. Here is a pic of mine,(Glenn also from jersey).
Wow Glenn, that's bad to the bone! I hope to see it around next season on visits to my Dad's. Late August/Sept hasn't been a good time for any updates on my project. We'll see how this month goes.
Dad was down in Maryland the past 5 days, so we were able to get alot of work done to the Coupe. Here are some pictures of the progress.....
My Dad is so good he can put this car together blindfolded. hahahaha

We were hoping to have the engine and trans in, but we were getting a constant leak from the brake proportioning valve. After we took it back off, we saw the flare for the rear brakes flattened out. The flare fitting looked good, so we’re not sure what happened. I have to order a new valve . Even though we only spent two days on the car, we put more together than we anticipated. I miss my Dad here already and he’s back in Jersey. Mom cooked some great meals here too and took care of the house. I'm one Blessed guy here. I bought a propane heater for the garage, so I'll be busy all winter. We used it this week and it was like summer in there. :D
It's looking great Pat. And nice to hear / see you've got some family time and hot rod time in at the same event. Pretty cool..
Thank You! The family time was even better. We went to the new Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore on Saturday night, took them to a nice seafood place on Friday night, we went to Mass downtown on Sunday and breakfast afterwards. We painted some car parts the rest of the day Sunday and really only spent Monday and Tuesday on the Coupe. Dad and I really wanted to see the engine in, but the brake leak killed most of Tuesday. I made videos of us in the garage putting it together too. We were laughing so much. hahaha
Sounds like a great visit. Sometimes just turning a wrench quietly together leads to old memories and great funny stories! Nice progress and the frame came out great!
You made some great memories there, Pat, plus made some progress on the coupe as a bonus! Too bad about the brake line leak, but in the big scheme not too much of a hurdle. Thanks for posting.
Now about that comment that Dad's ".... still turning wrenches at 75..." Heck, he's probably got another 25 years to show you how it's done!!:LOL:
Frame looks great Pat, always goes better with good help around!!! Brought back a lot of memories that my Dad and I spent over the years working on projects! He was my biggest supporter (and biggest critic) over the years, karts, race cars, Hot Rods, and most anything else we did he was right there with us! Sure do miss him!
Thank you Steve, Roger, and Dave. My Dad will be back down after Christmas and we will have everything fixed up that we missed. I will have the new valve, so we will put the engine/trans in, the driveshaft shortened from my old Fairlane in, headers and exhaust system, fuel tank and line to the the carb, trans cooler and trans lines, radiator and grille shell, headlights, and anything else except the body. We are looking real good for next spring or early summer.
Dad came down to Baltimore after Christmas and we have the Coupe looking great! Here are some pics to show the progress. We will cruising next summer for sure

You not only have a dad ( still ) but he works on cars with you?
That's so awesome.
Nice progress!
Thank you! I will keep the pictures coming until it's done.
Those Hoosier big and little's sure give the chassis "class and character". I love the look!
It's been a long time since I posted any progress here, but I finally painted everything last week and I'm going to wet sand the clearcoat and buff out this weekend. My Dad was down for two weeks and helped me out so much. The summer was too hot to paint in the garage, but good weather finally came. I have to get some pictures off my phone to put up, so I will work on that. I'm hoping to have everything together and driving around by Christmas, and I have a good interior guy local here in Maryland, who did my bench seat, that will finish the interior. I haven't been on the computer much, so I'm catching up now. Great cars on here since I last logged on. :)
Another month gone by, but Dad and I made some progress. We finally have the body on the frame this past Saturday. Him and Mom came down for Thanksgiving, and my poor Mom has all she can do to walk. She was real sick this past spring and summer, so that's why I lost all my drive since Easter on this project. I thought she was dying Holy Thursday. Her heart is doing okay, so I hope to have it driving before next Easter. I want to have a picture of her and Dad in the coupe together. That's the bucket list ending. Here's a few pics from this weekend. My Dad is still turning wrenches at 77 years old. I can only hope to live that long. :D
http://www.patfromjersey.com/32ford/00761a.jpg
Here's the Bob Drake rubber insulator between the body and frame we used. Nice stuff! I used a strip of painters tape on each hole along the frame rail to know where I had to make a hole for the bolts.
http://www.patfromjersey.com/32ford/00762a.jpg
I took off the rear wheels and bolted old steel rims I had on and put them on moving dollies to lower the rear as low as I could to mount the body.
http://www.patfromjersey.com/32ford/00763a.jpg
I found the perfect center of gravity on the Coupe and used straps with my electric hoist to bring it up as high as I could. We only had two Irishman on this job. :HMMM:

Painting my first car was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but I think it will look half way decent when I'm done. I wish I didn't try on this car, but the memories will last a lifetime. I'm going to buff out the clearcoat next, and Dad will come up after New Year's to install everything that needs a wire, which I will finish. I'm glad Dad was there every step of the way, because it's no fun on your own. This is his car, not mine. We are both glad Mom is doing better, but she needs two more surgeries before the end of the year. Please keep her in your prayers.
Wow Pat, you've had a bunch of up and downs this year. Working with your Dad on a hot rod is just way cool.
But your Mom in poor health can take the fun out of everything..
Chris and I will keep her in our prayers and wish you all well..
ps, the car is just Bitchin' - thanks for all the pics too!
Excellent work! hope your mom gets better soon!
