348 or 409 with triples W big Chevy, what could go wrong ? Wow, I spotted the engine and instantly thought " That's a Keeper in my book ." Is it a TH350 . TH400 or a five speed gog box ? Certainly looks super cool and I too love the five window before the three window coupes.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Verrrrry cool. I always liked the old W motors.
".... 1200 mile r/t in 1 day...." Makes for a long day don't it
I'm going to guess it's a 348.....it's been a long time but it seems like the 348 intakes (and they didn't make a Tri-Power 409) didn't work on the 409s due to port mis-match. The work around was to swap the 409 heads for 348 heads to run the Tri Power, but but gave up port (and valve?) size.
.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Thanks for the added info on the 409 and the tri- intake as I didn't know that the Chevy people only released the tri power on the 348. I remember a good mate of mine thought he had found a 409 advertised in the local paper for sale, ( this is before computers ), so he goes to have a look at the engine with his tools in tow and says to the guy he will buy it if he can remove a head and drop the sump to measure her first. The guy wasn't keen and reassured him that it was a 409 but Herbie stood his ground until the guy agreed, well it measured up to be a 348 so Herbie negotiated a much cheaper deal on the engine and I believe he still has the grin on his face from that. The engine went into a '64 Ponti Convertible with a blower and twin 4's on top.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Unless someone has changed the pan, as they (348 & 409) interchange.
