What if anything is necessary to have 3 point seat belts in a fiberglass 3 window 32 ford? I'd like to have some pirated production seat belts. Should the seats be attached to the frame? Should the seatbelts be attached to the frame also? What is the best setup for belt and seat attachment?
Leagally your '32 dosen't need any seatbelts of any kind unless you regester it as homebuilt instead of a '32, lap belts are sufficent but if you really want 3pt's, buy some junk yard 3 pt belts from a car, get black because it goes with any color. Seats and belts are always mounted into the body and never frame, the reason is that, the frame and body can fluxuate and move seperately even though they don't visably seem to. If you can get the seats out of the same car you got the belts from, you'r in good shape, just make shure the seat slider frame is bolted into the floor rather than molded in with the floor ( like most 1980's VW's ) for ease of installation.

Seats from late model convertibles have the 3 point connections built into the seat assembly. This avoids your need to anchor the shoulder strap to your fiberglass body, which would require some sort of additional steel framing (to properly perform). If you're going to the trouble of installing the 3 point belt setup, I'd certainly bolt the seats to the steel frame.

The shoulder belt needs to be attached to the door jamb (or a roll bar if you have it) ABOVE your shoulder level. Some folks mount the shoulder belt to the floor over the back of the seat. That's about as good as no shoulder belt.
The alternate is to install a seat with the belts built in as Dan said.
So, if I used convertible seats w/ seat belts for proper functioning, do I mount the seat to the frame. If the seatbelts are frame mounted, does the seat need also need to be frame mounted?
If I don't use convertible seats/belts then I need additional steel work, at about should height tied into the other steel work in order to use conventional seat belts?
