traction help

Hi guys.

Been working on another 5-liter.

Have a small problem with traction?

Car is not going to be a "racer" just something to cruse around and maybe play a little.

Problem is that the car wants to break loose (spin) in the "top" of the gear.

It will almost dead hook at the track off the line on street tires.

But will start to spin in the top of first, second, third.

Motor is mostly stock, car is a full weight 5-spd, with 355 and a rebuilt trc-loc.

Car has new rear shocks (stock replacement) and aftermarket control arms.

Could my pinion angle need adjustment?

Also I tightened the control arm bolts with the car in the air. Do I need to try loosing them and re tighten them with the weight of the car on the tires?

I know I could go with some DR and fix the problem for now. But I fear they won't help when I install the kit.

is this a fox body?,if so you need sub frame connectors and get rid of the front sway bar and you will notice a huge gain in traction,torino!!!

You could measure your pinion angle. On the street, I would keep it 4-6 degrees max.

Where's your RPM's when she starts to break loose?

it sound like it to me the tires cant do the job if they are going a way at the top of first gear? they are getting greasy for lack of a better word any time you tight up countrol s bar you should do it with the car on the gound you may want to look at some QA1 front end coil over kit for the front end and a firmer back shock?

cal-tracs work awesome on those cars

Sounds to me like at the top of each gear you are getting into the sweet spot on the cam and overpowering the tires. Think I would try a tire with a little softer compound. What do you have for rear tires on the car now???

Thats what I was thinking too Dave. I would try a softer & wider tire.
