Being an early fan of 1/8th mile racing, I was one of the people who contacted NHRA, and suggested shortening the distance. The only thing that seems to really limit these cars is traction, car weight, and distance. All other attempts to slow them down seem to fail. This also addresses the shut down area length problem, at some tracks.
I haven't been to a 1000 foot event yet, but I bet you can't tell the difference from the stands. I think it will be the standard from now on.
