700 feet of new launch pad before pouring. Makes me sweat when I look at. It reminds of the old days in the heat tying racks and floating the slab and making sure it's perfect. Oh well, that was the "young buck" days. Last week's race has been reset to July 6-8.
Jeff Byrd is a very good friend of mine and he told me they are VERY concerned that the track will not be ready for the July date
I heard they will be cutting it really close, also. That's a lot of work and that much concrete don't cure overnight. In fact, curing concrete will generate heat as it cures for many days/weeks or several years when your talking Hoover Dam....
We'll see if they pull it off...
I'm of the same concern. I have talked to a life long friend that does it here my area with these big pours like this. He's confident it will be cured and ready to go in about three weeks. I guess technical advances is giving them the edge. We'll see. I am from the old school for what you guys stated and I would be tickled to hear and see more about how their progress is going.
When they pour bridges they use a hot mix that sets in about 30 mins,so the next loaded truck can back over the previous pour.....hopefully they pull it off.!!
Going to be a great launch pad. Heck, I remember when a 100' concrete pad was a really big deal!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
