Pan car, either n2o or turbo, front brakes... thanks guys!
I dont fully understand the question.
NHRA has super street and IHRA has hot rod (i think thats what they call it) that run on 10.90 index.
Stock classes cover the entire ET range so what do you mean?
"Hey Road Agent", The VW drag bugs owned the NHRA "H/Gas" and "I/Gas" classes long before your "IMPORT" 1948 Anglia's came to the gasser classes, LOL.Quote:

A VW street car and driver at 1900#, with a 2332 cc engine (about 144 cubic inches) will run low 11's using using one power adder of about 100HP shot of NOS, or a small turbo.
so, again i ask, what class would a 12 second pan car with a power adder be placed in?
here is hnra possibles
Super Stock
Super Stock features an array of stock-appearing foreign and domestic factory automobiles and sports cars with limited modifications. Classes of cars and trucks, from late-model sedans and passenger vehicles to vintage muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s, are showcased. A handicap starting system equalizes competition, and breakout rules apply.
Stock
Stock encompasses a variety of foreign and domestic production vehicles. Everything from late-model passenger cars and trucks to the popular vehicles of the 1960s and 1970s can participate in any Stock class. Few modifications or alterations are allowed. As in Super Stock, a handicap starting system is used, and breakout rules are enforced.
i dont htink youd be able to run a turbo or nos in stock or super stock thats why they call it stock and super stock?? you might be able to run int he nhra XPLOD series for imports? its been gaining ground. all this talk about vw's is ironic ivve been looking at a 68 bug for about 800 bucks needs a throwout bearing. but i dont know what else to look for in these cars? like a checklist on what to go over ???
in air cooled vw it is all about the pan! they tend to rot under the battery and if they do, it can get ugly. bug parts are cheap and plentiful, so if you want a bug and this one is straight with a decent pan, go for it. btw, a stock body/interior bug with 140hp engine will get you in the 13s on a budget.

PS, one of my early drag cars was a '51 Thames panel truck built to run in AHRA-NHRA H/GAS with a 300 ci FORD six cyl and a Henry's nine inch rear end. It was the damm VW based gassers that blew the class index away before I could afford to finish the truck in 1967. LOL
With out NOS that car would run in Competition Eliminator. The car is to slow for the index and probably wouldn't get through tech. Class Racing is different than Bracket Racing. In Comp you run in pounds per cubic inch.

I don't think you can make tech with no front brakes in super street . Super street runs on a 10.90 index.
i said i have front brakes... so, is the second set of numbers 1/8 mile?
Yes they are. Is the roll bar certified ? There may be a Chassis Inspector near you.
Here is a link to the records. http://www.nhra.com/stats/comp_record.html

Unless you got a whole bunch of extra $$$$$ and can run on or below the index, better go find a nice track and do some bracket racing. Class racing is very, very competitive and the guys in it and winning art at the top of the sport!!!!! A new guy with a new combination on a budget probably isn't going to stand much of a chance. The class racers that are competitive are generally on or within a couple hundredths of index, round after round!!!!
Don't know what else to look for in these cars? WHY,,,A 283 or 327 of course,,,but that'd be a tuff one to do:LOL:Quote:

the car is no longer going to be a dedicated racer only. i've decided to keep it tame enough to still see some street time. the notch is a full interior, all steel car with a small t3 turbo added to the mix. i'll just run whatever they tell me i can. looks like a 7.89 in the 1/8th will be my first goal. if i can get there with the street/strip set up, i'll then decide if i want to go faster.
the picture in my signiture is the car.
