I'm hopeful they'll go back to 1/4 mile eventually but I've gotten to the "acceptance" stage regarding 1000'...
Been through all the pits today... will revisit tomorrow... maybe get Ashley to sign me somewhere ;)

Ya know what??? It's an INTERIM safety measure. If it saves one big wreck it's fine with me! It's still a matter of who gets there first. just like drag racing has always been....... I've got to believe that the drivers and NHRA know what is best for the top fuel cars until time and $$$$$ can fix the real problem..... In any form of Motorsports, driver safety has to be a higher priority then the wow factor for spectators......
It keeps the fans, with shorter/Quicker runs but its not top fuel....Just keeping money comeing into the short tracks instead of brining up safety at all tracks , its been done before. If its not a 1/4 mile I aint going.:DQuote:

Wasn't jumping on anyone's back.... Just simply saying that driver safety is the concern for me.....
Did you perchance catch any of the Super Gas or Comp today????
:D :D :D :mad:Quote:

Just wondering how Sheldon Gecker did.... and if either of the Nygaard boys made it in Super Gas or Comp????? (Local cars, one of them is my old Maverick)Quote:

Yeah, I checked on the web site...nothing up yet.... Tough for us flatlanders to go fast up there!!!!!!
tough for anyone to go fast up here... rule of thumb for gas cars: jet down 3 or 4 sizes. summer corrected altitude here is usually 8000-9000+ ft so if you're running at sea level, drop one size for each 2000'... then fine tuning from there.... or run a turbo and call it good can always add more boost or efi... computer usually figures it out. Also we pull about 2" less vacuum here all else equal
Someday would like to run mine somewhere with air... expect I'd pickup 7 tenths in the flat lands.
Lot of interesting comments and opinions by a number of people on the 1000' deal for the fuel cars. Tony Pedregon was pretty adamant about getting back to 1320', Don Prudhomme is not real thrilled with all of the billet pieces and Big Daddy thinks they should cut back on fuel pump volume to quote a few. It appears that most everybody is concerned about safety and slowing the cars down.
Again only a 15 car field in Top Fuel and no matter what anyone says Pro Drag Racing will die without more participation. When the fans start packing it in so will all of the major sponsors.

Dave's making way too much sense in this thread and it seems as if the NHRA was listening to his 1000' idea. Didnt really buy into it myself at first but after watching qualifying last night it doesnt seem that different. Drivers didnt seem to mind. Were there less oildowns? On TV it looked close to the same. I'll see in person at infineon but im ok with it and it cant hurt for short term safety. What im wondering is if it will become permanent if engine damage goes down?
And Dave, will you go back to your old opinions please, you and I in agreement all the time is starting to get a little creepy;)
Yeah, that is kind of scary Mike.... The western swing is certainly going to be intersting this year... Points can really change quick when the hot weather tuners get a chance to stand out above the crowd!!!! Still hot as heck out your way, Mike???? Some day I would really like to catch the tour at Bandemere and follow it through the "way out west" tracks, usually some of the tightest races in the whole season......Quote:

I found 1/8th mile, and the 1/5 mile midwestern tracks to be great racing, so I don't put as much importance on track length, as most.
In the end, the major performance limiting factors are how much horsepower the tires can apply to the track, and the length of the track. Any lother limits may eventually be overcome, as we have seen with weight, blower speed, ignition timing and fuel percentages that did not slow the cars down for very long.
The first race certainly went off excellent!!!! Huge crowd, great weather, and some very close runs..... Not the ultimate answer, but it will sure work fine till the right combination comes along.....
I just watched the rerun of the race at denver and found it just as appealing as before, it would not bother me at all if they leave it this way! It would be better than slowing them down.
I think it made for some closer racing. Seems like alot of the races were decided by a few feet. What NHRA needs right now is to slow the cars down. They need smaller blowers, single mag, smaller fuel pump, more wing, less tire & make the class affordable (as affordable as it can be). 15 car fields won't cut it. Need more competitors- not bigger trailers, corporate banquets pitside & multi car teams. Seems silly to have 25% of the qualified funny cars all under the Force banner.
not again...
You find me some sponsers, and a crew, and i will compete! Ill hire dave as my crew chief. What do ya say dave? well give that force team a run for the money.
If you visit the news today, you'll see that GM announced that they were planning to cut back their racing budget. They have already informed some tracks that GM will not be renewing their sponsorship when their current contract expires. NASCAR teams (and NASCAR proper) rely heavily on the manufacturer's $$ influx. The article said that NASCAR, NHRA, and the American LeMans series are the top three sanctioning bodies benefiting from GM's sponsorships.
Sad, but lack of money might slow down the cars plus make NHRA go to 8 car fields.....
can I be a crew member?????
If they do something affordable they can increase the fields back to 32
