Well, that was interesting! I am a fan of the underfunded underdogs, but that fight for Top Fuel was a real battle!....and the biggest dogs still didn't win the event. That keeps me watching. :-) ....and the Greek is still running Top Fuel at 81!

Yeah, congrats to The Greek!!!! Has the new title as Fastest Top Fueler over 80!!!!!
What a great race, heck I even mangaged to stay in my chair to watch the bikes!!!!
Mike Neff finally got his first event win, and Force cars were 1 & 2 in the championship, 1& 2 in the event!
And Tony Schumacher is going to send his championship trohy to Ft. Hood!!! There are still some class acts in the Pro Ranks!!!
Pretty much agree with all that, though would have still liked to have seen Dixon get the gold Wally. Zippy winning his first by DRIVING was pretty cool. Good entertainment the whole show......................................well, except for that Boost Mobile commercial with Danica Patrick..................that was just WRONG!!
Bob you are so right. That was just wrong!
cant wait to see if larry morgan can be a serious contender in a ford next year .. i know erica enders and jim cunningham were not
I hope he is! I like Morgan and was tickled that nice guy Edwards won also!:)
I would like to see what Larry Morgan can do with the Ford. He is a good engine man.
I also like to see the nice guys win. It's hard to cheer for somebody that complains, looks down at the cometition, or wants to get threatening with his rivals.
I also like to see a guy win on his own talent and sweat, because he can't afford to "buy" talent and an unlimited supply of help and parts. I still miss the days when, a few clever and hard working blue collar racers could combine their talent, race pro classes nationally.... and win!
Has anyone heard for sure whether the Gliddens are doing anything on Ford's new effort??? Also heard rumors that some of the engine R&D is coming out of Yate's shop??????
As for Mike Edwards winning!!!!! Man, it just doesn't get much better then that!!!! What a season that whole team had!!!!
Mike Ewards a great guy,He worked for Nickens Bros. When i raced Comp Elem.
where do you guys watch thsi? what channel? I want to start watching drag racing. I'm not into the top fuel or those long skinny ones so much as the cool cars like I'd like to have. gassers, altered etc.
thanks guys.
Under the major sanctioning bodies, I don't think "Gas Coupe Sedan" classes have even existed for decades. They were basically replaced by funny car.
Today the best you can hope for is PRO Mod, like this '57 Buick runs. That does offer the chance to use early body styles. IHRA broadcasts the events with this class included.
IHRA coverage is on the "Speed Channel". On my DirectV that is 607. You may have to check with your provider to see if they have it. The IHRA website should show when programs are aired.
There are still altered events, such as the one we have in Tucson every summer, but I don't know of any that are aired on television. I think there is one in Idaho, and the upper midwest. It is more of a local track promotion. You could go to "Awful Awful Fuel Altereds" on the internet for history and event details.
Heard there's another Pro Mod class starting up, much the same cars, but they'll have to fun an automatic trans instead of the Lenco's, and multi-stage clutches... I suppose an attempt to take some of the expense out of the class and get a few more cars involved....
Another fun class, if you're in the area, is the Texas Pro Stockers, 500 ci limit, don't remember the weight minimum, but again you have to run an automatic transmission instead of the 5 speeds like the NHRA pro stockers... Takes a bunch of money out of the price of building and running a car... It's up for discussion this winter at one of our local tracks to maybe bring in a version of the Texas class up here!!!! I just see it as another place for those "shiftless" guys to race!!!!!!!;):LOL::LOL:
Speaking of the Gliddens-- I looked at Billys car at the ADRL and the motor was covered up and wouldnt allow pictures of it. So what does that tell you? Force is supposedly running a Ford inspired motor but it looks more like a Hemi to me.
Remember the days when some one running a Ford funny had a Ford motor? Jungle ran Chevys alot, along with quite a few other guys.
Yeah---and some of those Cheys used stock flywheel ring gears and starters
The thing I loved most about the days you mentioned are that you could cheer for your favorite brand!!! ....almost like ProStock or SuperStock!
A favorite event...though it was too far for me to attend from Illinois... was the Orange County Manufacturers' Championships, where the funny cars would be grouped into teams by "make"!
...of course I miss other things, like "winning a race means just as much on the first day of the season as the last".....and other changes. }:-(
(I hate the falsely generated "drama" of reality shows too.)
Yep--OCIR had several big shows--Manufactors Championship,Hang Ten, PDA, etc plus the division 7 races, a nhra national race once or twice(I think)
Lots of good photos on several sites if you do search
It was also the site of the last BBG in the pits by our car---thats a different story tho

Yes.... the good old days. {:-( One of my "fave" classes was CC/G, with those noisey 10,000-11,000 RPM shifts!!! Not everything that changes is for the better.
I mis typed---that was bbQ---as in food--everybody was always hanging out and someone set up a grill once--it grew from there--more and more people for free food---Donovan brought steaks, Arias-burgers, someone else chickens--got so out of hand that I didn't have room to work and accidently turned a loaded grill over drawing some severe tonque lashings from a few people---so I turned over the next two---and ran them off----now a days, Berstein, Schumacker, etc, etc with there 53 footers, flowers on tables---If I'd only known----of course if they would get rid of the catering trucks, there would be room for some race cars
That's okay. I love both BB/G AND BBQ! :-)
chanel 150 on dish network. the sport has gotten to expensive and to hi tech. i really liked the jr.stocks back in the 60's and 70's.last time i was at a track the honda's were kicking everybody a__.
Here is something of interest. Next year IHRA will offer "Prostalgia Funny Car Eliminator". One of my friends is building one. I wonder if he knew this?
