Thanks for the video. I'd say the SBC moves the pony quit well
no helmets ?????
Street racing?
This is at an industrial area where there are machine shops and auto race or car builder's are.
Shine and Jack are thinkin' what I'm thinkin'. No tech inspection, no helmets, no roll bars, unlimited access to the racing surface by other vehicles, children, animals, with those cars goin' 120, 130 MPH ..... hey.....sooner or later......whatever. The cops who show up to watch should lose their jobs on the spot.
.
good video, thanks Kurt!!!
For real, street racing is STUPID. Tech and I spent our high school years working against such stupidity and any cop worth his badge would haul those clowns off to jail.
If those of you on this forum condone this activity you have a bigger problem than those participating.
i saw a couple of bars but a ballcap on backwards is little help. like forrest said ... stupid is as stupid does .
Well, put me on the list I guess!!! Long ways to an NHRA drag strip around here, 140 miles one way. We had an eighth mile strip in Sioux Falls, but that got shut down because of noise....even though it ran parallel to I-29 on the County Fairgrounds and is an Industrial area. Another drag strip, 70 miles from here is IHRA--but they don't bother with the Tech part of it much, the track surface is lousy, the guard rail is still 2 rows of Armco Barrier with questionable wooden posts holding it up, then the cost is $45.00 for car and driver, then $20.00 a head to get your crew in the pits.....
Our situation around here is not unique, many areas have a lot less access to some "controlled", and generally overpriced drag strip.... For a lot of guys just trying to find someone with a truck and trailer to tow their car to a track is almost impossible, very few young racers around here with pockets deep enough to afford a race car, toter, and trailer... It's real easy to throw stones and tell these kids to just not play with their cars till they can afford to do it right and safely, but it's also impractical as all get out!!!! As for the not helmets, no safety gear, how about getting involved and helping to educate these kids instead of just bad mouthing them??? For that matter, how many on CHR can truthfully say they've never got into a little "speed contest" on a public highway? At least these kids are off by themselves and only endangering themselves---can many here say they have never done the same or worse???? Heck, I'm 63 and still guilty of "takin' it to the streets" when the situation warrants it, I do have a full cage and have the helmet, gloves, and jacket at the ready... BTW, helmet, gloves, and jacket will take care of at least $400.00 to get any pieces that are worth wearing. Switched one car over to a full containment seat, six way belts, and Hans compatible to be able to run faster then 7.90, say goodbye to $1,000.00, then another $700.00 for the Hans device.
Drag racing on a sanctioned track has priced itself right out of reach for a lot of young racers, so of course it goes to the streets! Kids are going to be kids, they're going to build Hot Rods and if the track is non existent, too far away, or too expensive they're going to race on the streets! Heck, lots of us still do! It was the first drag racing I was ever involved in and I still love it! Is it wrong? Sure. Big deal, most everything I like is illegal or not affordable these days! As with most issues involving kids these days, most would prefer to just talk bad about them rather then get involved and show them some alternative activity! Many times on this forum and in the "real world" I've challenged those who hate today's drag racing to get involved with a local racer and help them out with some advice and maybe some $$$$, don't think anyone has ever accepted the challenge, but none of them have stopped complaining about drag racing, street racing, or just those "damned kids" in general...
I'll leave it at this, then you can all sit back and self righteously throw stones at me, If you're not part of the solution, then you must be part of the problem.
