The serial number behind the alt is the pad number, it's a few numbers that should be able to be used for ID purposes, it is also coupled with the matching sequential vin numbers from the car that the engine was pulled from. Look up C7B on a site like http://www.mortec.com
I have no Idea.
According to www.chevymania.com, it's a 1985 305.
Thanks guy's for all your help, sorry it took so long to answer but just got home from work. Thanks Denny I'm gonna give that site a try right now. Your right Streets but I've done alot more stuff with fords then GM, As far as high performance goes But you right
as usual, Streets . Can't think of any thing clever to say right now, I've been up for 30 hours Straight.

C7B176448 Sounds like the date of manufacture code (C7B) followed by the VIN serial number. I don't think its a casting number .
Go to this site and find out where the actual casting number is.

You poor guy...lol...we're like corraling a bunch of pre schoolers aren't we? Same routine, different day at my house...kids hit the door, stuff drops off them in a path as they head for the nearest appliance with food or a screen...lol...ya know what I did though? I bought some little padlock boxes that I can put around the plug and lock it up so they can't stick it in an outlet.. for stuff with screens...an I lock em up...that way they can't plug em in...an ya know what? After a few days...(after they sat in front of blank screens for an hour or so) they had time to pick up their own junk...don't guess that would work here though would it? he he he... :pQuote:

These are the only numbers we could find. But the engine has new paint on it , so maybe the numbers got painted over.
