hard starting TBI
I'm having the same problem with my '90 Chevy 1/2 ton (350 TBI), hard starting, dies when I take my foot off the gas. I've replaced every sensor on the truck, and still have the problem. I think that I have a bad fuel pump, but I haven't replaced it yet. You might check to see if your engine dies when the fuel level is really low and you make a sharp turn or stop fast. Both situations will move fuel away from the pump pickup for a few seconds. I've noticed that my truck always dies when I do this, and is really hard to get restarted. These symptoms just confirm my feelings that I have a bad pump. I'm not going to replace it until it warms up a little outside though, it's too stinkin' cold to be pulling a gas tank. If my new pump cures my problems I'll send you an e-mail and let you know (assuming you're still having problems).
You should check your computer codes, and see what you get from that, although I don't think a fuel pump will show up as a trouble code. I didnt check for codes on mine, and it probably could have saved me the time and expense of replacing sensors. Overall, I think TBI is a pretty good setup, and you should probably stick with it and try to make it work properly. I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but I don't know myself... yet!
