i just joined the metal in the oil club

a couple days ago i took the T/A out and i noticed that the lifters were ticking a little at higher rpms, not bad but just a little annoying to me, pulled the valve covers off to adjust and now i see little metal flakes in the valleys :eek: . it turns out that the carb issue was the least of my problems :mad: . i going to go back to digging and hopfully have a report.
ps. theres about 1000 miles one the motor ( i wish there was a little smilie face that was throwing up that i could add )

well, its not the cam like i thought it was going to be, the wierd thing is that most all of the filings are in the valleys of the heads, not in the intake valley that i can see. oooooh stress :confused:

dumb thing to ask but bigger than stock cam in motor ?????
could it just be rocker arm interference wear, just a thought but i would think there wouldnt be any big noticeable shavings.
i dont know what motor you have in there but had buddie that experienced trouble with his 327 with waaay too big a cam and stock rockers. they would work but he would bend pushrods and break the odd rocker arm.. they shure looked chewed all to heck when he took them out.

yes the cam is quite a bit larger than stock, i checked all the rockers, guide plates, and pushrods over good and i couldnt see anything wearing funny. i havent decided what to do yet. i'm confident in my engine build so i'm sure my bottom end is ok. i think i'll pull the cam and check the bushings and if their good i'm going to clean it up and run it. i cut the filter apart and there wasnt hardly anything in there. i was just thinking i wish i'd remember when i put the adjustible rocker arm studs in. if i did that while it was in the car that could be my answer. i had to tap all the rocker arm stud holes to thread in the studs and guide plates.

Check and see if the chips can be picked up with a magnet, I have seen shavings come off aluminun valve covers if the rocker arms hit them. Might explain noise at high rpm. Worth a look. Carlg
