As long as the motor isn't setting in a lake you'll be fine. These things are all slathered up with assembly lube when you put it together so don't worry about. setting for a while isn't going to change anything...
If it's a flat tappet cam (not a roller), bring the RPM's up as soon as the engine fires. Keep it between 1500-2500RPM for about 20 minutes. That way enough oil will reach it during break in. Assembly lube is a must of course, but as soon as the engine fires you can say goodbye to it. That's why you need to bring the revs up so there's ample oil reaching the cam.
Haha! Sorry Astroracer! I just realized I read this thread all wrong... I'm sure everyone knows break in procedures on a new cam! Yes leaving it sit for a while would be fine... Once again, sorry 'bout that!
