camshaft choices
Here is where I really blew it. I built my engine with my wife as governing head on the rebuild.
I have .202 heads, flowed, ported, port matched. Edelbrock performer manifold, EGR carb. Full emissions. .030 over. The stock exhaust manifold is ported. I took drag line cable imbedded grit, and polished the inside to match the ports. 2 1/2 dual exhaust, crossed over, and length matched.
Nice quiet sound, heavy on the torque, 22mpg highway.
I am getting some "wet" black deposits on the tailpipes.
I suspect as it is a new rebuild, I will have to change the head gaskets. No oil loss per se, a little puff of blue on start up, no bigge, between oil changes I do not have to add any oil.
I have the high volume pump in the crankcase.
That doggie camshaft is coming out! it is a .196/.204. Ok, for stock but I like the feel of power.
What cam might I consider for the performer EGR manifold and carb? It is a van, so I like the low end crisp. I have been looking at specs but they are running into each other. Crane has an advertised low end camshaft that is a torque monster in the summit catalogue.
Any suggestions on a cam? The van is a daily runner, I do not race, or drive other than big truckin. I am just looking for reliability, perhaps a little lope, and good performance and mileage at the pump.
Any suggestions?
I am customizing my van. It is an unlikely rig. It is a G20, full size, conversion. 2.73 rear, TH350. I have gutted the interior and am building my jewelers bench in the back. I plan on doing shows with the capability of doing casting, jewelery repair, gem cutting, and custom fabrication. I want the van to look, and sound the part. I even found some American Mag wheels in Los Angeles circa 1970 sitting in a repair shop in Culver City.
The van is a 1986. She will be tubbed in the rear, blacked out, blended, with running boards, or side pipes, don't know yet.
Any cam ideas?
A travel agent was sitting at his desk when he noticed an elderly couple standing outside, gazing longingly at the posters of dream vacations in the shop window. They looked sweet, and honestly, a...
