What engine for T bucket

Arlight, as many of you know, I have been planning a T bucket. I was going to use a 305 but I think I'v decided agenst it. I still don't want a power monster but somthing with a decent amount of power. I was thinking about possible EFI, but was then looking at crate engines, GM has the 330 HO that makes 330 Hp. But then, the thought of like a holley stealth MPFI on a stock 350. or possibly a LT1 from a mid 90's Caprice. I know an LS1 would be out of the question as that would be too much money. Of course, I could go EFI 302 after getting a good running crown vic for 5-600. I like carbs but, I'm throwing the idea in my head of EFI. What do you guys think?

I was just looking at flatheads on ebay. I think the cost is a little too much for me tho.

I saw one a long time ago. It was named Brain Damage. It had a bored out 502 with an 8/71, dual quads, fully tricked. The body also had been redone. The frame was massive! It almost looked cartoon like it was so built.
The one I am planning, I would like the 350 route. I also am looking into using the Jeep CJ2A body instead of the classic bucket.
Still on the drawing boards, or rather mostly a big maybe. That Brain Damage is still bright when I think about it. It just spoke total power.

Hi Matt, How 'bout a 500 cubic inch Cadillac??? TONS of Torque ;)... Not sure how easy they are to find though. But they shouldn't be that expensive (and you'd have money left over for HUGE rear tires.....} Bill

thats what i am putting in my bucket is a 500 caddy paid 500.00 for the whole car and it had been rebuilt. ,but just looked at a buick nailhead motor the other day and thought they are quite unique also.
i am alrady eying up my 2nd bucket body and thought a in line 6 with a standard would be a neat option.

I could get my hands on 1. I know where there is a '72 Caddy 4dr coupe deville sitting at a small used car lot, been there a whail but it looks good. I was thinking about that route, being the car is right there. I also know where there is an olds 455 ( I think ) in a 1976 Olds Cutlass supreme 2dr, I could probably get that around 500.

Matt, There's a 472 cu. in. Cad motor on EBay for $399 that includes a Turbo 400 Trans. Been on there since Aug. 25th. with no bids. 3 days left.... Another one on EBay thats bid up to $70 but it has a blown rod...... But then you can get a whole car for $500??? hummm..... Your car would be more unique and faster with one of these over the 350 that you referred to..... Bill

Buick nailheads look great in a bucket. The 302 would be cool, too. I wouldn't do the SBC thing on a bet! Belly button motor!

I say a inline 6 with fuel injection from Cliffords. Do that to that light thing and you will smoke small block's all day. Well that's as long as another Tbucket doesn't have a small block. But then again all the stuff I learned from inliners.org I don't know. I think a inline 6 would be awsome in a T though. Just my oppinion. Something different and unique. Too many 350's and big blocks in T buckets now. Oh and of course I would probably put a Ford inline6 in it if possible.

I have to agree with FMX(for once:p) Get youself a 4.0L from a jeep cherokee or even better a 300 ford. Gobs of torque from the 300 and almost 200 ponies from the 4L and at least 220 ft-lbs. However, the 455 from the 76 Cutlass wouldnt be too bad. Granted, its a big block, but its an Olds big block. How many T-buckets see oldsmobile motors? But if you go with the 300, grab the 4speed with OD. Just to watch people go "huh?" If you grab the 4L, get the auto with OD. The manual chrysler trannies are garbage.

You should get a GMC v6 and put it in there, or maybe a GMC v12. Have fun buying gas. I have a friend who had a GMC v6 in his pickup and the best he did was something like 7 mpg.

Fuel inj small block is cool but I allways think about it breaking down on the side of the road . I know I can fix a carb and early electronic ign on side of the road . I gusse Im old skool dont like the look of all the wires

I saw the car Parrot has for sale, it is deffinetly nice for the price but, I don't have 9k to spend ( at 1 pop anyway, and deffinetly not now ), and the whole reason I want to build the T is basicly for my experience and knowladge, and also so I can have some self acomplishment, and look back at what I have done when it is finished. I would go ahead and really push with the Chevy but, I'm not building that car, I'm basicly fixing what's broke, and in amature ways at that. Yes the Chevy will get done but it will take a little longer, I didn't do much to it this year anyway, I blocked off some bondo and test fit the visor.

Matt, I'm gonna make a suggestion. You've already got all the parts to donate to a T project. Just start takin' the Falcon apart. With gas prices escalating out of sight, you'd look pretty smart with a 200 cid 6-banger sittin' in front of the cowl. You'll probably have to rebuild any motor/trans you get anyway and the little six would be pretty easy on the pocketbook. Just do a cheapo cast piston rebuild and you'd be good to go for years to come.

I think you should plan on building your own frame, that way you could assure yourself that you'd have enough length in front of the inliner to install a bulletproof engine driven fan, fan clutch and shroud system.

It's deffinetly a thought, but the thing is, I don't have the knowladge or experience to build a frame or even the welder to weld it with. I will measure the engine length in relation to the 350 in my dads '72 C10, if it's longer than I don't know if I should do the 200I6 or not. it is not a bad motor on gas but, it gets like 20 MPG which isn't great for a small 6. So another motor I have option to is a 4.3 Vortech V6, or even the 302 EFI out of a late 80's early 90's Crown Vic, a friend of the faimly has a '90 5.0 Crown vic and he gets 26MPG on avrage. I guess if the Falcon dosent sell, it could come of use but if I can get someone to buy the Falcon for my min price of $800, I'll sell it. It is deffinetly somthing to keep in mind though.
