Ok, one of my friends has a 455 buick...I know the buick motors are tough but my question is...are they rather expensive to build or would it be like building a chevy? I am craving a big block in my el camino, and im not predjudice as long as it's a GM. Anyone having some good suggestions would be very much appreciated....
Also, if anyone has a good look at big and small block build ups i would appreciate if i could get them. Thanks!
They are more to build than a 350, parts are more expensive/ harder to find. If your looking for a GM BB engine, and it dosn't have to be Chevy, think 500 Caddilac.
The Buick, Olds, and Pontiac big inch motors are a bit more expensive, but like the Caddy 500 when done right they are torque monsters. Lots of good parts sources, try a google search using "buick big blocks".
Ok, thanks guys...I'm going to look at the wholesale book tomarrow and see what kind of deals i can get on speed pro, eagle, elgin, comp, clevite, and what kind of carbs i can get...
The only reason i was looking at the 455 buick was because one of my good buddies offered me one that he has but it needs rebuilt and machine refreshed...

Check it out and ask questions on there. Lots of guys that have built a lot of these motors. You can find a whole car for cheap and hook up a turbo 400 to em, etc...
I think ill stick with BBC. Just a small one though, like a 396 or something. I don't want to make enough power that I can't use a th350 because i already have one built and ready to go...Plus, im looking for good street power, not drag racing...I want something that sounds pretty, looks pretty, and i can romp on it. I'm shooting for about 400 horses and from what i can tell its pretty easy to get that out of a 396.
