Spark plugs
How much difference between spark plugs???? I have been looking at the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs but had an guy that works on engines full time tell me that a good AC or autolite platinum plug was better then the +4's at 1/2 the cost.
Thanks,
Charles

You wont notice too much of a difference between plugs. NGK and AC Delco make the best plugs, but they're not so much better than everybody else that you'll actually notice. They do tend to be more durable. As for all of the fancy electrodes and what not, I prefer the good old fashioned copper and nickel plated electrodes. Those fine wire platinum and iridium plugs can cause detonation because it doesn't take much heat to get that fine wire electrode to really start glowing red. Platinum plugs are not for performance, they are for longevity. Platinum plugs typically last around 100k miles while a standard plug is good for 30k miles. Even so, the added cost of some of these fancy new plugs, $88/100k miles is still greater than the 3.3 sets of standard plugs at $13/30k miles. If it were a pain in the butt to change plugs and I had to pull my engine to do it or something, I would definatly go with the platinums.
