What motor size
Bought a 1968 chevy C-10 pick up truck with a small block. Seller said the motor was a 327. But how is one to know for sure? Is there somthing on the block that will tell you what it is. Like a number? Ans if there is a number there, what would it be for a 327? Thanks John.

There should be a number cast on the block behind the driver's side head, 6-7 digits. Then go to Mortec.com to decipher.

Thanks M1, Also a guy told me the the transmission was a 400. Is there a way to tell. Did they evan make a 400 in 68? John.

The 400 first came out in 1964. In 1968, there was only the 400, i believe the 180, and powerglide transmissions for chevy. The 350 came out in 1969. Look at the pan, it has a weird shape, some have said it slightly resembles the state of texas. It's unique. has no real flat sides to it. Not square like to put it another way.

Is the 400 stronger than the 350? Thanks john

The 400 is stronger than the 350. Yet the 350 has a little bit better first gear ratio. The 400's though are great transmissions.
