balanced assemblies?

What is the differance between a balanced engine kit and not balanced? And also, My main question, Does and engine kit have to be balance for a mild street engine?

With balancing, you equalize the weights of the small and big ends of the rods and all the pistons, then weigh everything that reciprocates and balance the whole mess by adding or removing weight to the counterweights of the crankshaft. If an engine is just a little out of balance, it can get on your nerves after a while. It might not be enough to cause any damage, but you know what I mean, it's a loose thread that needs to be handled. Balance it if you can afford it. You'll like the motor better in the long run.

balancing is very important. but i have seen alot of kits that say they are balance and have had them checked by my hometown machinist. it is best to buy a non balanced kit and take it to someone u trust. anything u build u always balance. think of it like the tires installed on your car. have you seen the wear on non balaned tires? same thing inside the engine occurs.

yes and more stroke on the crank the more is needs to be done . it move the reciprocating masses weigh. way from the center line of the crank and if not done it hard on stuff at hi rpm and can work on stuff in the bottom end . thing in time could beak off or fall off like oil pump oil pick ups bolts .

an unbalanced engine is hell on wheels literally.... you'll notice all sorts of vibrations, all thru the engine, bolts always falling off, steering wheel vibrating so bad that it tires your arms out, mirrors shaking.... its no fun at all

thanx a lot guys for the info. I have never built an engine but plan to attempt it in the next year. I have been looking at engine kits online and stuff, and saw the big price differance between the two, but mainly on stroker kits. But you guys definatly answered my question.
