I have a 1968 firebird that im finding a motor for. Im not sure what motors will drop right in. I have the option to buy a 396ci ss motor out of a 70 or 71 elcomino ss. Will this drop right in? also if anyone has a website or a number of a business or knowlegable individual who can answer some questions for me I would greatly appretiate it.
what motor was in the car originally
any pontiac other than the 301 I belive will bolt in, a 350, 389 or 400 were common engines back then. probably came with a 350. These are Pontiac 350's and 400's only, there compleatly diffrent than the Chevy 350 and 400's. the 396 will bolt in with some camero parts of the same year.

Matt you might want to do a search on Pontiacs overhead cam 6, neat motor.
Mine had a 326 and column shift auto

thanks for your replies. The original motor is a 350ci. Will it be as easy as motor mount adaptors, or chevy mounts or will i have to fabricate.
You talk about that overhead cam straight six. Theres a guy from Denim Springs here in LA that has one of those cars all orginal. Nice and very different to look at seeing a six under the hood. I think they called them sprints.
i'm not much of a chevy guy... so as much as i can tell you is that either it'll mount up or you can buy what you need in summit.....gm is really good about things being interchangeable... specially with aftermarket....
