Hello from McComb.
Why not build the one you have?
I might do just that, my problem started when I tried to crank it 3 days ago. I had gone to Oreilly's and bought new plugs for a 49 flat head 6. noticed a clanking noise when I tried to crank it, I then noticed it had quit firing. pulled the cap and it was not turning the dis. checked untill I found the cam was broke, just pulled the head and every plug was smashed flat. they gave me the wrong plugs. when I bought this 49 Plymouth from a older guy "I'm 65" and he said the engine had been overhauled 500 miles ago. it ran like a sewing machine, I'm taking this head down to Oreilly's and show it to the boss and see if they will do anything about it. I had taken the car apart to rebuild it right and was going to put the front fenders, grill, hood, etc back on but thought its best to crank it now with all the stuff off------Richie
Are you sure the cam broke? or are you thinking it borke because the dist is not turning.
I pulled the oil pump that drives the distributor then the side covers for the valve lifters and turned it over again, only the 3 front lifters are moving which means the cam is not turning the others. I'm going to take the front timing chain cover off tomorrow and get to where I can pull it out but thats got to be the problem. the plugs they sold me were autolite 63, I told the guy 49 Plymouth special deluxe flat head 6 cylinder---anyone know where I might fine a 49 parts car to buy some side moulding and right back fender rock guard---Richie
A guy in Osyka has a car, I can't remember if he said it was a 47 or 49 or what, but he wants somthing like 3,000 for it. I do know where some engines are if you need a cam/lifters.
I'd bet www.egge.com can make a new cam or any other part that broke for it.
Where is Osyka?---I bought this 49 to put on ebay and try to make a little out of it, my big mastake was taking my wife for a drive in it. just like on overhauling I tore into it, I'm just about finished painting and boy does it look good. base, 4 coats of clear, color sanding and buffing. slick as a baby's rear. all new interior coming as soon as I get the front cap back on and the doors. I'm driving a 1929 Chrysler 4 door royal street rod, 318 all mopar. its a nice looking and driving car------Richie
