I have the opportunity to buy a Lincoln 302 HD y block to put in my 1950 F1 rat rod. The only problem is no tranny. Anybody have any ideas? I do know that the Lincoln y block is not interchangable with the ford y block. I don't even know what the standard transmission would have been. It has a flywheel on it now for a manual tranny. These were used in large trucks. Any info would help.

There are too many good engines available - tri power Olds, Buick nail heads, Ford 385's and FE's, 472 and 500" Caddies just to name a few that parts can be found fairly easily and speed part mfrs support to a point.
I'll have to side with Dave on this one. I guess I'd have to be down and out to my last cent to use one of these motors. The link I've shown does show that some of the parts off the motor are saleable, so depending on what you have to pay for the motor (maybe offer the guy $50 for it), there may be a profit in it for you to part it out. At the bottom of the page on the link is some used parts, listing the same steel crank that is in the 302 motor for $150. So, listing the stuff on ebay may make you a little money. But that is all it would be good for to me, just parting out to make a little money to buy a REAL motor/trans. http://www.ford-y-block.com/lincoln.htm
Oh yeah, you asked about a trans for this motor. I can't believe that Ford would make a motor that wouldn't bolt up to a 3-spd of the same era. I'll bet any pickup truck trans from '52 to '57 would work. And maybe up through '63 when they stopped making this motor.
