what color engine?

I'm getting a black Alloy Valve cover for my 200 I6 ( needed for the extra clearence of the Roller Rockers ), they are textured with polished fins. I was originally going to paint the engine gloss black, but that seems too plain now. I know I'm limated to using rattle can colors ( EPA regulations, we don't have a fume hood, or a spray booth in the auto shop ). Yellow, Red??? want to stay away from stock Ford Blue. car will remain white, I'll most likely paint the engine compartment black whail I got the engine out.

Red has my vote. I thought maybe a nice gray, but you aren't looking for plain.

originally, I was going to use a factory " Powered By Ford " Valve cover, found on some 1970's 200's and 250's, and paint the engine black and valve cover black, but paint the " Powered By Ford " letters white first, then mask them and paint the cover black, but being that the roller rockers won't clear a stock cover, so even tho, that would look real nice, and stand out, I cannot use it. I was thinking, ither red or yellow.

here is what a yellow engine looks like, this is a 200 I6, but with a special head, same valve cover as what I'm getting. it Was the SEMA display engine for Ford 6 performance parts in 2005

If you really want to use the stock cover, why not mill out a shim and get the clearance you need?

How about red with yellow flames or yellow with red flames, I never saw a engine done that way, a six would be a easy way to view a custom paint job. :cool:

I was thinking about that, but the alloy finned cover will look just as good, not to mention, I have yet to find a " Power By Ford " valve cover, there out there, but they can be hard to find.

yeah, more and more I look at that engine, the more and more, I like it.

Hotrod yellow or Daytona yellow? Dupli Color sells both, hotrod yellow is a bit deeper of a yellow in color, than the above pic.

buy a can of each try a test spray panel or use the one that covers the best you could paint it white first the yellow will cover better

that's what I'll do. have to go to napa and get the paint, I'll get the white primer also.

that yellow motor looks great, but it would depend on what Color i was gonna paint the car.:HMMM:

if you can find the yellow in the duplicolor 1200* header paint i'd use that.... the 500* tends to flake of when it gets oil and other chemicals on it.... and yes that yellow looks incredibly nice of a choice.... i've done the ford red.... it really doesn't look that great, i actually like the ford blue better than the red.... the yellow looks good though, only thing i dont like about light colors is they show dirt and grime easier.... thats one nice thing about the factory black on the 200s

200's were always factory ford blue, only 144's and 170's had black blocks

funny cause my factory 200 in my 66 mustang 2+2 was black and it had never been touched... all matching numbers car with 131000 original miles

all the info I'v gotten, leads to 1965 being the last year for red/ black engines, after that Ford blue was used. my 200 was ford blue. shure was your 200 really a 200? 5 freeze plugs going down the side?

That first pic of the yellow engine is nice clean and mean looking!!!!

yes matt it really is a 200, has 5 freeze plugs and the vin# says its a 200 i knew the original owner well enough to know he wasn't lying about the car... my car was an early 66 made at the san jose plant. original california car born and raised

that's rare then, It's really hard to actully put dates on a lot of Ford stuff, they did so much stuff diffrent all the time, not to mention in the early 70's, all the Data for the 60's ( production #'s ect... ) burned in a fire.

Yellow would be nice, or how about gold... like the famous Olds Rocket engines of years gone by.:toocool:


Mine is painted the same color as the car.... maroon. Looks good, but getting a little long in the tooth.:(

Black& gold were original colors for the early 260& 289 Mustangs

mmmm the black and gold is a sexy combo.... thats the colors i'm painting my car

and yes ford stuff is very disorganized.... all the different setups that they offered on a car but didn't really exactly list.... getting the right brackets and pulleys can be hell to go through, let alone some of the other parts
