engine suffix
i have been getting extremely pissed off for the last 1/2 hour i punched a hole through my wall already, i have been trying to look up the engine suffix XJA and when ever i look up engine suffixes all i get are camaro sites that tell me nothing, if i see one more thing about a f***ing camaro i going to kill something, this engine was pulled from a mid to late 90s chevy truck but i need to know exactly what, can anyone please help.
-
What I get is a 1969 350 215hp 2bolt.
Do you have a block casting number?
-
Calm down and try these two sites www.mortec.com/location.htm and www.mortec.com/locatpge2.htm maybe this will give your answers.
-
yea i already looked up the casting number on mortec, it is 10243880, and the other number is, V1221XJA,
-
Using the casting number I got '95-'00 Vortec Gen 1 "ZZ4"
-
yea i got that too, i just need to know now what it came out of and why the vja suffix does not seem to exist
-
The ZZ4 is a replacement crate engine, it's not out of any specific year or model.

According to the MSA-1 engine identification code guide,
the XJA suffix code identifies a 1996 350ci 210 hp L31 engine attached to a 700R4 trans in either a 1/2 ton body or a 3/4 ton body.
To verify this, there should be no fuel pump on the motor but the boss is there with NO cover plate. If you stick your finger in the location were the fuel pump push rod goes, you will find that the hole is not drilled. Also, the engine is a one piece rear main seal motor. It also probably has brass freeze plugs installed from the factory. The engine should have a plastic timing chain cover with a hole on the lower passenger side for the CKP.
