I'm new here and have a question on small blocks
Back in `68 I built a 265. Bored it .30 over, put a 283 crank in it with 327 rods, full floated the wrist pins, balanced the engine, dropped in forged 11/5 to 1 pistons, power pack heads, stock intake, 750 AFB, with a 316 duration and a 456 solid lift cam. I could get 8000 rpms out of it. I had it in a 55chevy wagon with a muncie 4 speed. It was a fun car. Now I have a `67 chevy 1/2 ton pickup with a 283, 3spd. Being limited on funds, I still want to build another engine that screams. I'm thinking, if I got a 327 block and dropped the 283 crank and rods in, I would be adding cubic inches and still keep my high rpms, right? My big problem is, I don't know what chamber size (cc's) my power pack heads were. I had 3/32" of clearance between my valves and the 11.5 to 1 piston. I want to go with 1.94 or 2.02 valves, but I don't know what my chamber cc's need to be to run the pop up pistons. Thanks for reading my story and hopefully you can help with some ideas. My son is 17 and we hope to have this running by next year so he can run in the highschool drag compition.
