whats your favorite carburetor?
i am just having one heck of a time making this dang proform work for another season. what would you guys recomend. whats your favorite choice for a performance motor? i wa slooking at some quick fuel's and demons. but wanted to see what you guys have had the best luck with.

Sorry Scooter, haven't tried either, still get mine done at Vindicator.... Heard lots of good things about the Quick Fuel carbs, Erik said they were fairly good right out of the box.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Ive got a proform main body, metering blocks, and fuel bowls. The only thing holley left is the base. I just changed the bowls because I stripped the float adjust nut out of the holley bowl. Ive now got a weaker pump shot then before. I know thier customer service is crap when I got no reply from their internet tech support from 6 weeks ago, and they list no phone number that I could find. I wont buy thier stuff again just for that reason. Whats yours doing or not doing for you.

No suggestion who to buy, but a possible suggestion not to buy.
I've had fits with my Speed Demon, but I think the rich condition I THOUGHT I had early on was just oil blowby before the rings seated.
I never could get the electronic choke to work, so I pulled it and installed a manual choke. In order to do that, I had to buy the WHOLE conversion kit, which included all of the parts (butterfly, linkages, etc.) that were already on the carb.
The local dyno shops don't like them at all. For several years, BG had horrible quality control problems - metal shavings in the carbs, loose parts, etc. They claim that they had those problems fixed by early 2008. That leaves a lot of possible problem BG carbs on the shelves.
My big problem, which seems to be common on BG carbs, is the idle to off-idle stumble. They put in their special "idle-eaze" adjustment to compensate, but those of us with older carbs are pretty much out of luck, I guess - unless we want to pay $160 for a new baseplate.
I've noticed that Summit stopped selling Demons. BG says that BG cancelled the Summit account because of their liberal return policy. However, a liberal return policy shouldn't affect you if you build a quality product. At this point, I wouldn't buy another Demon.
Here's a good thread to read. A tech from BG is trying to save the day, but I don't think he's ahead on points.

the idle surges from 2-3k then it will fall off and die. if you put it in gear it dies instantly. this has been going on for a long time. this was the main problem while i was racing it. i had a carb pro here rebuild it back to "out of the box" status and still same problems i am done. i actually had very good luck with a demon 650 on dads old red nova with a 355 put it on there and never had to touch it. so what would anybody recomend? quick fuel? willys? predator? demon? or just get a good old fashioned holley 750 dbl pumper and go from there!?

Go with a good ol fashioned Holley. I have never owned a Demon but had a good friend that had a 750 Speed Demon that wouldn't work for him. I couldn't tell you if it was a bad carb or not...cuz some people just don't know how to tune carbs. He did end up sending it back and getting a Holley though and his problems were fixed. I know I've had good luck with Holley's also.

Quick Fuel and AED both perform well, bunches of them at the track on some good running, consistent cars. An out of the box Holley is ok, but it takes a bunch of work and more bucks to get it up to the same performance level of the modded brands....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I've always run holley 4150 double pumpers... nothin' fancy standard main body. had a 750 with the choke tower milled off now running a 850 race with big annular boosters... will mill the choke tower off that one shortly. I've had issues with each but with some persistence in going after the tuning both ran perfectly. As for your idle transition stumble it sounds very much like a vac leak (been there done that) could also be idle circuit way too lean or not enough pump shot...
Hope some of this helps... thing is all these proform quick fuel BG etc etc are all basically just Holley's in fancy clothes

there is no off idle stumble because it refuses to idle below 2000 rpm. i was reading the summit site and they said the quick fuel carbs have proform centers that makes me shy away from them already. what about the hp series dave? hell why wouldnt a 750 dominator work!?

I don't know how one would work on a drag car, but we use VDL carbs on the circle track cars with good success...Our race team page

yes power is worth big $ these days the more i look at that dominator i would like to have one. and hey many hate predators the one we had was thee best carb we ever ran. luck of the draw i guess....

The Willys alcohol carb on my brother's dirt modified has been a great carb, and they have excellent tech support. None better! The carb is so well calibrated, it makes the car drive better. We have loaned it out to other drivers that have said the same thing. I would give these guys a call and ask what they recommend, before I bought from anyone else. These guys are great people.

Willy's builds an excellent circle burnin' carb, if they do drag carbs too, I'd be talking to them, Scooter!!!!! We run the Dominator's on both the drag cars, 1050's, but again they were built at Vindicator so it's a $700 carb, then another $300-$500 for mods and flowing.... Top quality carbs ain't cheap, and IMO if the company building them isn't flow testing them then they're just guessing, which you can do at home!!!! Think I'd give Willy's a call and see what they say, explain your setup and what you want it to do. Don't cost nothing but a phone call. Having Tech Support to call when things don't work right is right up there in the "priceless" catagory!!!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
