Powermaster Starters
Has anyone ever had any problems with these? Reason I ask is.I bought a
high torque mini about 2 1/2 years ago when I first started the resto on my GTO. It worked fine up until last month, it just died which i found a little
strange as it is new.Ive only cranked it maybe once a month to warm up the
car when sitting.Took the starter in to a local jobber, got it back and they said there was so much black wrinkle paint on the body it was`nt grounding properly.Anyways they round all the paint off, I threw it back in, and it works fine.Just thought it was a strange deal , and wondered if anyone else has experienced this

I buy Powermaster parts whenever I need something that they make. Over the years, I have received Powermaster components that didnt work quite right but I called them and they always made good on their stuff (for free).....they are great to deal with and they build great stuff.

Me too. We have three of them and the two that are on running cars work like gangbusters. I did have a bad clearance issue in the beginning, but it probably was my flexplate to block clearance not being 15/16 like they want, but only 7/8. A homemade shim fixed it right up and for a year and a half it has been working well.
They also seem very helpful on the phone tech-wise.

IMO they make decent products. I have seen the insides of their starters and alternators. As far as the paint goes on a grounding surface that is something I look for routinely these days with everyone's stuff; it does not take too much to screw up the power flow in 12V systems.

I've never had any problems myself but have known others who have had units fail. But the company has stood behind their products and replaced all failed assemblies.
