BowTie Girl: The 472/500 blocks are basically the same everything fits but, for me to put a 500 crank into my 472 I would have to notch the bottom of my cylinders..otherwise than that its all the same.

my 500 is going into my 48 chevy 2dr. They will go where a rat will. And think I think that the powerplant of choice tells a lot about a person, in the Hot rod world!
Gotta have an ELEPHANT motor some day.
As for fond past "loves", a 308, Twin H, Hornet.:3dSMILE:
Also Vegas, heads will swap if you like lots of compression. The 500 is 4.25 bore x 4.25 stroke. A square engine!
well motor of choice and picking a motor that can help destinguish a certian car is something else, but as to motors to set between the rails of certain vehs are endless, me myself prefer a 440ci MoPar, but i dont think that it would look good in a 36 dodge cpe. or the same motor in a 50 ford shoe box.
Actually Knuckles, I think a Blown 440 would be awsome and speak wonders for a 36 Dodge cpe. It is all how you build the car around the heart!
very true, but i think a 354 double rocker or 421 pontiac with 8 stroms would look killer also

i need to get some of my pics loaded onto my pc so i can postem here.. but thats a nice pontiac you dont see many of those on the road
I am even having problems finding part. Let me knwo if you know where I can look. I have a small list
i live out in the boonies now in NC I will keep my eye out i have seen a lot of not to commonly seen cars out here since I have moved from CA.
If you can put gas in it and it sounds good I am happy with most engines but my fav was a 70 pontiac 455 shot .060 over with 6x heads an edelbrock torker intake and cam and a holley 750 dp on top of it in a 73 pontiac grandam I could lay down rubber at 60 mph=fun
btw bowtiegirl that 71 pontiac is sweet I am almost bought one like it accept maroon kicking myself I didn't also had a 455 swap done to it.
BowTie Girl; I have a 1969 472 with 10.5 to 1 compression, this motor is rated at 375HP and 525 foot pounds of torque. In 68 & 69 was highest compression and these are the best heads to use going over 5500rpm's or for high performance in the 500 or 472. Pre 72 heads have a 72cc chamber after 72 they went to a 120cc chamber in the heads. And after 1969 because of the piston change the compression droped to 10 to 1. Now with a few mods I can have more horse power then the 500 and turn more RPM's. There is no better stock head then the one I have on my 472 right now.

PS Nice car
