I am trying to adjust my roller rockers on my 500 and am doing it the only way I know how try to spin the push rod when tightening the rocker adjuster till it will not turn by finger( you can hardly get your fingeers on them to spin them ) then another 3/4 which is about .030 . Is there any better way to figure out 0 lash cause i think i am tightening them down too far. I can see some of the lifters when adjusting and it seems like they start to move well before i can even feel any resistance .
Grasp the pushrod with your thumb and forefinger and jiggle it up and down while adjusting the nut down. When you're plumb out of jiggle, add your pre-load. The twist method will always be too tight unless you do it every day for a living.
Thanks for the reply tech, i knew that i was not getting a acurate setting and it was too tight. i will try that, the spiining thing just doesnt seen to be a accurate way if one rod is a little dryer or oilier it isnt the same.
Roger on the jiggle, Tech. If you can't get to the push rods real easily, remember that standard 20# copier paper is 0.0038 thick. A trick I've used is to snug until the paper catches and add pre-load. Kinda time consuming, but will work in a pinch - the real trick is to keep using a new chunk of paper and stopping before you tear it. Know it sounds funny, but it works well and you'll be +/- thirty-eight thousands..
got it buttoned up no rattles, actually was able to feel the o lash with just the allen wrench on the lash adjuster it would just snug up a little here is a pic of the rocker arms
