The volume of a single cylinder is pi x radius squared x height. For an 8 cylinder, multiply by the number of cylinders.
bore of a 283 is 3.875 and stroke is 3 inches
grab your calculator and GO
here what i use BORE X BORE X STROKE X.7854 XNO.OF CYLINDERS .. the same . do not to for get to around up if the engine cost more then $5000. alot of guys round way up. funny how big they get when they leave the shop. i like to around way down real size and divide by 2 and keep the hood shut :)
So, did you get the math figured out? Just for s's & g's, I'll let the cat out of the bag: we used to call that a 292.
we ran a lot of 283+.60 that makes it 292 cid another vary popular was 4 inch 283 makes 301 a good set of heads and cam and about 12to 1 compression they made a lot of power that was back in the late 50s and early 60s before 327s were plentiful btw 327+60=332 and plus1/8 is 339 first record we got el mirage with the Studebaker 159 mph and at bonneville 171mph with a 339cid small block that I built that was 1966 I think ....ted
Thanks for the in puts guys, I've been away and haven't done anything with anything for a while.
