hey guys i am new here, i am from south africa and i am currently busy restoring a 71 chev c10 pickup .. i need some help identifiying the small block motor that is in it because some people say i have a 283 and others say i have a 327 so i am a bit confused .. hope you guys can help thanx in advance

Welcome to CHR! Looks like it's a 64-67 327 block. Here's what came from Googling "sbc block casting 3858180" - Block Casting Numbers - 3858180 to 3932442
Heads were used on both 283's and 327's, 60cc chambers referred to as PowerPack's - Quick Ref: Small Block Chevy Cylinder Head Casting Numbers - EngineLabs
wow thanx for the help thats great news lol i thought it was a small 283.. at least the 327 has a bit more power than a 283

thanx i have had her for about 5 years but never had the time or the finances to start the restoration... but this year i decided to start with the old girl to bring her back to life... its a learning journey but i enjoy every moment of it lol

thanx for the warm welcome this will be a bolt and nut restoration every part on this truck will be changed with new ones... gonna be a very long build but i am in no hurry for now i just want to get it painted ... the color will be a darker shade of baby blue with a white roof will post some internet pics of the color that i want ...

Amazing colour scheme you have settled on and I absolutely love the idea of the airbagged ride too although you may not be going that way but that truck certainly lit my fire with it sitting down on the ground like that. You certainly ain't dragging the chain with progress on yours, thanks for the update.

Seems like that sbc might be one with the larger mains so a 350 or aftermarket crank will fit

ok please ignore previous post because plans have changed lol we decided to do a twin turbo setup on the 327 motor with very low boost nothing major here is the parts list so far
327 block
283 power pak heads
1102 summit cam
ACL mains and big end bearings
melling high volume oil pump
efi high rise intake
8x 550cc injectors
crane hydraulic lifters
arp head bolts
victor reinz steel head gaskets
pistons : not sure which to use any ideas or advice would be appreciated
do you guys have any idea at compression ratio i am looking at with this setup

Why twin turbo with low boost?
I'm no expert on turbos, but it seems to me that of you want low boost, use one turbo.
Fewer headaches that way.
Twin turbos are easier to plumb on v8s than single turbo
I wouldn't turbo anything with a carb these days--too many fuel injection options available that cab be tuned for low rpm vacume to higher boost high rpm ----
No problems then with blow thru carb issues, power valves, pcv------
we are going efi with it using this intake... SBC Small Block Chevy High Rise Hurricane Aluminum EFI Intake Manifold 350 | eBay
and will be using 8x 550cc injectors,the reason for the low boost is because i am scared that the motor wont be reliable with high boost
I agree with your choice of a 360 degree intake manifold design, but be careful about getting the correct bolt pattern. Here is the bolt pattern of your heads......

didnt know you get different bolt patters on the sbc intakes i thought they were all the same lol ok so my intake wont match the 283 power pack bolt pattern so i guess i need some different heads to work with this intake

You don't need a lot of boost to make big power with turbos but this greatly depends on the turbos being used too. On a 5.3 we did with 2 on3 turbos, that thing made over 650hp on 6lbs of boost. China turbos and junkyard engine. I was impressed and ticked off. :LOL:Quote:
