Engine died in high water

Well, I put the new starter on. It went clunk! The old starter was bad, but now I guess I am going to have to pull the oil pan and check the connecting rods and pistons. I am hoping that there isn't too much damage, but, of course, I fear the worst right now. Thanks for the encouragement, Rick. I hope mine will be as easy as yours, too. It might be a moot point, though. My van has 170,000 miles on it, so it might be that I should just put another engine in it or get something new. I'll take this weekend and see what happens. Thanks for all your help guys.

Again, I'd just about bet dinner in Buckhead that the engine is hydralocked. A good engine with reasonably low mileage (75K-100K) will run you between $700-$1200. These engines in good condition are hard to find.

How's the food in Buckhead??

I have a 96 caravan and the air intake for the engine is abot the bumper height. if teh water got there (what, 9 inches deep?) is probably got sucked into the engine - and into a cylinder and since it won't compress, locked things up.

remove all 6 plugs and crank it over, by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley if need be. with the plugs out any water will come out the plug holes. if you were doing any more than idling, and got water in the engine, you likely bent a rod and will have to replace or rebuild the engine.

I was in the motorcycle biz for 11 years - this is common on ATVs and dirt bikes.

The food is excellent. The last time there I had all-you-can-eat King Crab Legs. Absolutely fabulous. The rest of Atlanta is great too.
